Amazon Prime Video's 'The Rings of Power' First Season Cost A Whopping $462 Million

Mumbai, February 11 - Amazon Prime Video has spent millions of dollars for the upcoming epic fantasy adventure The Lord of the Rings series, titled "The Rings of Power". The company bought the television rights for series for a whopping US$250 million in November 2017, making a five-season production commitment worth at least US$1 billion. ## Now, it is reported that the first season of "The Rings of Power" TV show will cost the retail giant an unimaginable over $462 million to produce, making it one of the costliest series ever made. ## In April last year, New Zealand's minister for economic development and tourism revealed that the fantasy drama will be one of the most costly television series ever made, with its season one price tag coming in at around $465 million.## With this kind of price, it is likly the highest amount ever spent for a single season of any TV series. For comparison, HBO's "Game of Thrones" cost around $100 million per season. Season one episodes cost around $6 million each and eventually rose to around $15 million by season eight.## Among the other top productions, Disney spent around "100 million" on the first season of The Mandalorian. Marvel's "Wanda Vision" to cost Disney around US$25 million per episode and nine episodes comprise max at US$225 million. But none is as big as Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings".## "The Rings of Power" series is developed by J. D. Payne, and Patrick McKay based on "The Lord of The Rings" stories by J. R. R. Tolkien. The series, set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, begins during a time of relative peace and covers all of the major events from the Second Age of Middle-earth: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the story of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men.## It stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, among others in prominent roles. Actress Aditi Rao Hydari, who is currently seen in the Netflix movie Ajeeb Daastaans, said that she does miss going out to theaters, despite the OTT platforms are doing good to entertain people. She said there is a sense of "magic" in theatres, which has always been there and will never go away.## "I miss it because there's the magic associated with the theatre, there's a whole childhood nostalgia, and it's a very immersive experience. You go there and you become a part of the world there", Aditi told IANS.## However, due to the lockdown last year, the OTT platforms witnessed an exponential rise in terms of new content and subscribers, and Aditi is not wrong when she says that OTTs have been the actor's best friend in many ways. ## "In the lockdown, OTT platforms have been our best friends. With OTT, there has been amazing writing, content, and the way the audience has consumed the content, that's been really incredible. As an actor, there is so much more to do on it, in fact, for directors, writers, and everyone in the industry it has opened a whole new world", she said.## With the rise of OTTs, Aditi feels that there will be a time when both, OTTs and theaters will be at the same level as each platform is powerful in its own way. ## "For writers, directors, actors, it has opened up a new world in terms of stories that one can only make for OTT which is different from (what) one makes for the theatres. Quite often, the theatrical films are larger-than-life and mounted differently. A producer might tell it better, how it is structured. OTT is different because the pressure is different", she says.## On the work front, Aditi will next be seen in the Tamil film "Hey Sinamika", which also stars Dulquer Salmaan, and Kajal Aggarwal, and Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie "Maha Samudram", co-starring Sharwanand, Siddharth, and Anu Emmanuel. Chennai, April 17, 2021, Renowned Tamil actor, Vivek who shared the screen space with Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith Kumar, and others, died due to a heart attack in a Chennai hospital in the early hours of Saturday. He was admitted to SIMS Hospital in Vadapalani where he underwent an angioplasty and stenting procedure on Friday for a complete block in a critical blood vessel of the heart. He was put on ECMO support in the intensive care unit.## The actor, who was 59 years old, made his debut in 1987 with Manathil Uruthi Vendum which also starred late S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. He worked on over 200 movies and all those movies were in the Tamil language. His last movie before his death was Dharala Prabhu which is the remake of the Hindi movie, Vicky Donor. Indian 2, which stars Kamal Haasan, will be Vivek's final appearance. Amid the reports of creative differences, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has reportedly sacked the nation's heartthrob, Kartik Aaryan from the sequel of Dostana stating the actor's "unprofessional behavior". It has also been said that Dharma Productions or any other film business of Karan Johar has vowed never to work with Kartik again.## Earlier, there were reports that Kartik Aaryan is no longer part of Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham starrer Dostana sequel as he wanted some changes in the script to which Johar didn't agree upon. Along with the creative differences, it has also been reported that Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik have had a fallout and he was not ready to share screen space with the actress which led to a rift between Karan and Kartik. ## However, as per the reports, Karan Johar was annoyed with Kartik's tantrums. It follows the story of an animal-loving veterinary doctor who witnesses corrupt practices in a local state hospital and decides to stand up against it.## "The story of 'Gobar!' is at once unique, relatable, and incredibly funny, as well as gripping and entertaining to the point that I'm confident it will compel people to go to the theaters. We are very clear about the impact we want to make. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been promoted to Grade A (INR 5 Cr) from Grade B (INR 3 Cr) in the annual contract list released by BCCI on Thursday (April 15) for the time period of October 2020-September 2021. Among the top gainers, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj, who played a vital role in the series win down under, have been a Grade C (INR 1 Cr) contract along with Axar Patel, who was handed his Test cap during the recently concluded series against England. ## Shardul Thakur, who made an impact in India's incredible tour Down Under, has also seen a jump and promoted to Grade B from C while Bhuvneshwar Kumar's lengthy injury and India's growing list of fast bowlers has seen him demoted to Grade B from A. The leg-spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have also slipped down the contract pecking order, both getting Grade C from B. A day after Ranveer Singh announced his first collaboration with renowned filmmaker S. Shankar for the Hindi remake of the 2005 Tamil movie "Anniyan", the movie got into trouble over the copyright issue. Aascar V Ravichandran, who produced the original "Anniyan", has asked Shankar to stop immediately further proceedings as he is the sole owner of the entire story rights. ## "I'm utterly shocked to know that you are likly to undertake the direction of a Hindi film by adopting the story of the movie Anniyan. You are well aware of the fact that I am the producer of the said movie Anniyan. The entire story rights were purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which the full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any such adoption or remaking or copying the main plot of the said movie, without my permission, is totally illegal", the statement, shared by the producer, read. ## Ravichandran also reminded Shankar when the Robot director was under severe stress due to the failure of "BOYS", he was the one who still provided Shankar, the opportunity to direct "Anniyan", after which he regained his lost ground. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and ace filmmaker, S. Shankar have joined hands for their first project together which is going to be the Hindi adaptation of Tamil cult classic "Anniyan". It is believed the Ranveer himself approached Shankar as he has been a big fan of the director's cinematic vision. ## "I am blessed to have this opportunity to be a part of the spectacular cinematic vision of Shankar sir. He is an exception to the norm, a true disruptor. I had always hoped and dreamed that I would get a chance to collaborate with him. To lead a film like 'Anniyan' is a dream come true for any artist. Vikram sir, one of our country's finest talents, an artist who I hugely admire, gave a colossal performance in the original, one that can never be matched. I can only hope that my interpretation and rendition of the part also connect with audiences in the same way", Ranveer said in a statement. ## The original "Anniyan" was also directed by Shankar which became one of the biggest cult blockbusters of the Tamil cinema. The psychological action thriller starred Chiyaan Vikram as a disillusioned man, whose frustration at the corruption, social apathy, and public negligence all around leads to a split personality that attempts to right the system.## "For it to be made into a Hindi film, 'Anniyan' needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part.
