Ramayan And Mahabharat Epics Inspire Indian Filmmakers For Mega Film Projects

The Indian mythological stories have always attracted the people and when it comes to epics, Ramayan and Mahabharat, people have always keen to know more about them. During the lockdown last year, Indian TV telecasted Ramayan and Mahabharat that not only liked by people but also broke the TRP records. ## The ever-growing interest of people in the Indian epics has made Indian filmmakers look into this genre for the big screen experience. Now, it seems that the characters and stories based on Ramayan and Mahabharat are the latest favorites of the Indian filmmakers as a host of new films based on these epics have been launched. ## Not only Bollywood but South Indian film industries also seem to be inspired by these epics lately. In the past, Bollywood has tried its hands on a theme similar to this genre just for the drama quotient. However, the upcoming roster promises to explore the stories with bigger production values. ## Here's a look at what's in store ## BRAHMASTRA## Brahmastra was announced many moons back but couldn't complete due to its large scale and of course, the covid-19 pandemic which halted the shoot. It is an ambitious action fantasy that draws its name from Mahabharat, where Brahmastra was a lethal supernatural weapon capable of destroying the entire universe.## The Ayan Mukerji directorial is said to be the first part of a trilogy that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Mouni Roy in key roles. The film is planned to be released in 3D, IMAX, and standard formats in multiple Indian languages. However, the plot of the film is yet to be known as things are kept under wraps at the moment. ## ADIPURUSH ## A dream project of director Om Raut, Adipurush is an adaptation of Ramayan, where Telugu star Prabhas features as Lord Ram while Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan will be seen essaying Ravan. This film is already making a lot of noise due to its vast plot and scale. However, the film also sparked controversy in December last year after Saif Ali Khan mentioned in an interview that the film was going to show the "humane" side of Ravan. Though he later apologized for his remark saying, "Lord Ram has always been the symbol of righteousness and heroism for me".## The film is currently on the floors and will be releasing on 11 August 2022 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. ## RAM SETU ## Actor-producer Akshay Kumar has carved his space with patriotism and socially relevant commentary through mainstream films lately. With Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu, he is falling back on mythology. Announcing the film on Twitter last year, Akshay had said the endeavor was "to keep alive the ideals of Ram in the consciousness of all Bharatiyas by building a bridge (Setu) that will connect generations to come".## The actor has sought permission from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to shoot the film in Ayodhya. Akshay will be backing the film too, besides starring along with Jacqueline Fernandez, and Nushrratt Bharuccha. The film is expected to go on floors soon and eyeing Diwali 2022 release. ## THE IMMORTAL ASHWATTHAMA ## According to the story of Mahabharat, Ashwathama is the son of guru Dronacharya, who was the weapon instructor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. During the battle of Kurukshetra, Ashvatthama sided with the Kauravas and fought against the Pandavas. As per the Mahabharat, he is immortal.## The Immortal Ashwatthama is a superhero film starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The film is being marketed as a "high-concept visual spectacle". It will be helmed by Aditya Dhar who has earlier directed Vicky Kaushal in the 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike and produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his banner RSVP Movies. ## SURYAPUTRA MAHAVIR KARNA ## Another film that inspired by Mahabharat. It film narrates the story of Karna, son of Suryadev or Sun God, and princess Kunti, born before her marriage. Karna is one of the most important characters of Mahabharat. Written and directed by Malayalam filmmaker RS Vimal, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Jackky Bhagnani while the dialogues, lyrics, and additional screenplay are penned by Dr. Kumar Vishwas. Last year on the occasion of Diwali, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar announced his next film titled "Ram Setu". Without revealing further details about the rest of the cast, the actor shared the first look of the film that will be directed by Abhishek Sharma and presented by Akshay's production house, Cape Of Good Films, while Aruna Bhatia and Vikram Malhotra will produce it. ## Now, as the movie is expected to go on floors soon, Akshay Kumar has started preparation of the film and also revealed that Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha will be the two leading actresses in the film. Just when the Bollywood film industry started getting back to its feet, the sudden rise in the covid-19 cases in Maharashtra has raised the eyebrows of the filmmakers again. With vaccination started, dozens of films have been announced for a theatrical release in the packed summer. However, there are still some filmmakers who are not looking sure for a theatrical release and opting for a direct-to-digital release of their films. ## Recently, Netflix India announced its slate of 2021 releases which includes some of the new Hindi movies. Kartik Aryan's Dhamaka, Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Harshvardhan Rane starrer Haseen Dilruba, and Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh's Sardar Ka Grandson were recently announced for Netflix premiere. ## Now, one of the most-awaited films, Toofan starring Farhaan Akhtar has also opted for direct-to-digital release. The sports drama will skip the theatrical release and will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on 21st May this year. G. Prabha To Release Second Sanskrit Movie After His Award-Winning Film 'Ishti'

Dr. G. Prabha, a retired professor and head of the department of Sanskrit at Loyola College in Chennai, is going to come out with his second Sanskrit movie 'Taya' after his award-winning Sanskrit film 'Ishti'. Ishti was the opening movie at the International Film Festival of India in Goa in 2016 and had won global acclaim at the Pyongyang film festival in South Korea. ## The second film, Taya, is a women-centric film based on a woman from the Brahmin clan taking revenge against a group of Brahmin men who had exploited her friend. Taya is a Sanskrit word meaning 'By Her' in English and the director is also scripting the movie which is a low-budget film produced by Tamil Nadu-based producer Gokulam Gopalan.## Taya has a strong cast including national award winner Nedumudi Venu and Anumol, with Sunny Joseph as the cinematographer.## "The movie is women-centric and brings out the trauma of the Nambudiri women of Kerala in the early 19th century. In this movie, we are trying to narrate the story of a Nambudiri girl who was exploited by several Nambudiri men and was killed when she was to spill the beans. Her friend, Savitri, takes up the issue and threatens all those who had exploited her friend of taking them before the authorities", Prabha told IANS. ## The crew is expected to wind up the shoot by March 25 and complete all the other formalities by the end of April. The Income Tax Department on Wednesday carried out searches at over 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune, including the premises of film director Anurag Kashyap, actress Taapsee Pannu, filmmaker Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena. Now, the IT Department has issued an official statement on the raids they carried out in Mumbai at different properties and claims crores hidden. ## The statement read, "The Income Tax Department is carrying out search and survey operations which started on 03.03.2021 on two leading film production companies, a leading actress and two Talent Management companies in Mumbai. Search operation is being carried out at Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The group is mainly engaged in the business of Production of Motion Pictures, Web Series, acting, direction, and talent Management of celebrities and other artists. A total of 28 premises are being covered in different locations which include residences and offices".## "During the search, evidence of huge suppression of income by the leading Film Production house compared to the actual box office collections has been unearthed. The company officials have not been able to explain the discrepancy of around Rs. 300 crore".## "Evidence related to manipulation and under-valuation of share transactions of the production house amongst the film directors and shareholders, having tax implication of about Rs. 350 crore has been found and is being further investigated".## "Evidence of cash receipts by the leading actress amounting to Rs 5 crore has been recovered. Further investigation is going on", the statement further read. ## The statement also said that the team has seized a huge amount of digital data in the form of emails, Whatsapp chats, hard disks, etc which are under investigation. "Apart from this, non-genuine/bogus expenditure to related concerns by the leading producers/director having tax implication of about Rs. 20 crore has been detected. Similar findings have been made in the case of the leading actress also".## At the office premises of the two talent management companies, a huge amount of digital data has been seized in the form of emails, WhatsApp chats, hard disks, etc which are under investigation. After the huge success of "Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story", the makers of the series have announced the second installment of the "Scam" franchise, titled "Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi".## The production banner Applause Entertainment on Thursday (March 4) revealed its plans of launching a second season, which will be based on the story of Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind of the 2003 Stamp Paper scam. Just like the first installment, "Scam 2003" will also be directed by the National Award Winning director, Hansal Mehta. ## The show has been adapted from the Hindi book Reporter ki Diary, authored by journalist/news reporter Sanjay Singh, who is credited for breaking the scam story years ago. The series promises to be an intriguing watch as it will capture the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, born in Khanapur in Karnataka, and his journey to becoming the mastermind behind one of India's most ingenious scams spread across multiple states which shock the entire country. It is estimated that the scam value was around 20,000 crores. ## The production house has roped in the talented Kiran Yadnyopavit - known for his contribution to the Marathi film industry, to write and develop the story along with author Sanjay Singh. Bombay High Court Directs Amazon Prime Video To Take Down Telugu Movie 'V'

The Bombay High Court has directed streaming platform Amazon Prime Video to take down the Telugu movie "V" starring Nani. Model and actor Sakshi Malik filed a defamation suit against Venkateshwara Creations for allegedly using her photograph without permission in their movie. Malik's advocate Saveena Bedi said the scene showed Malik's photograph, referring to her as a commercial sex worker.## "Simply using another's image, and most especially a private image, without consent is prima facie impermissible, unlawful, and entirely illegal. In a given case, it may also be defamatory, depending on the type of use", the court said in its order. The order copy was made available on Wednesday according to Gadgets 360.## "The fact that the image has been illicitly used is bad enough. It only makes matters worse when used in a plainly derogatory and demeaning vein", Justice Patel said.## The court directed Amazon Prime Video to take down the movie within 24 hours until the said scene is deleted. "It is not acceptable for them (movie's makers) to merely pixelate or blur the images. The entire sequence, which has the image of the plaintiff (Malik), is to be removed immediately", Justice Patel said.## Bedi argued that Malik's photo was used illicitly by the defendant in a Telugu movie titled 'V' that was released on Amazon on September 5, 2020. As per Malik's suit, she had commissioned a photographer in 2017 for creating a portfolio.## "In August 2017, she (Malik) posted some photographs from the portfolio on her Instagram account. One of these photos was used in a scene of the Telugu movie where there is a reference to a commercial sex worker", Bedi said.## Talking about the movie "V", it is an action thriller directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti and produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. The movie stars Nani, Sudheer Babu, Nivetha Thomas, and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles along with Vennela Kishore and Tanikella Bharani in supporting roles.
