Gangubai Kathiawadi Officially Enters Rs. 100 Crores Net Club
Mumbai, March 9 - Alia Bhatt is now the new box office QUEEN!
"Gangubai Kathiawadi", a biographical drama, has officially entered Rs. 100 crores net club after an estimated Rs. 3 crores on the second Wednesday, pushing total domestic net to Rs. 102.64 crores.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed took just 13 days to reach the box office milestone, the second-fastest for a solely woman-led film. Kangana Ranaut's "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" is the fastest to reach Rs. 100 crores net, which took just 11 days.
"Gangubai Kathiawadi" netted Rs. 68.93 crores in the first week, and maintained a super hold over the second weekend for Rs. 23.28 crores. On the second Monday, the film dipped by 66% for Rs. 3.41 crores but took a jump of 17.60% for Rs. 4.01 crores on the second Tuesday. The second Wednesday estimates take the film past Rs. 100 crores net.
Overall, it is Alia Bhatt's 5th movie to cross Rs. 100 crores net after "Gully Boy" (₹ 139.63 Cr), "Raazi" (₹ 123.74 Cr), "Badrinath Ki Dulhania" (₹ 117.89 Cr), and "2 States" (₹ 102.33 Cr). It is expected to finish between Rs. 120 - 130 crores for lifetime domestic net.
Worldwide, the movie has crossed Rs. 150 crores gross, including Rs. 32 crores overseas. This is an excellent box office outcome for the makers of "Gangubai Kathiawadi", which is produced by Bhansali Productions, and Pen India Limited. Despite the pandemic, and 50% occupancy in Maharasthra, it has managed to pull the audiences back to theaters.
The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Pahwa playing pivotal roles with Ajay Devgn featuring in an extended cameo appearance.
