Thalapathy Vijay's 'Ghilli' Re-Release Sees Blockbuster Response
Chennai, April 21 - Thalapathy Vijay's one of the biggest blockbusters, sports action film Ghilli has had a re-release worldwide on April 20 and the response has been the same as it was 20 years ago when the movie opened to houseful boards in theatres. ## There has been a dearth of box office successes for Tamil cinema this year, and filmmakers and distributors have been re-releasing older blockbusters to get some sort of outcome. Thalapathy Vijay is easily the biggest name in Tamil cinema and with the re-release of the film, he proved his box office pull once again. ## As far as the tracked collection is concerned, Ghilli scored 3.40 crores gross in India, and as per the estimates, it minted a fantastic approximately 7.75 crores gross at the worldwide box office, including around 4.75 crores in India and 3 crores overseas which is higher than most of the new releases featuring bankable stars not just in Tamil but in other languages.## Among the South Indian re-releases, Ghilli had the biggest opening, beating Mahesh Babu's Business Man which scored around 5.25 crores gross worldwide. Jr. NTR's Simhadri is at number 3 with around 4 crores worldwide opening.## In its original box office run back in 2004, Ghilli grossed over 40 crores worldwide (as per Wikipedia) against a budget of around 8 crores and was one of the biggest Indian hits of that year. The movie is expected to stay in theatres for at least a week. ## Stay tuned...
