Chennai, August 13 - The much-anticipated trailer of Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action thriller film Kanguva was released on August 12 and it largely met with positive reception. Directed by Siva, the movie also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in prominent roles.## Produced by Studio Green and UV Creations, the Kanguva trailer scored 19+ million views in the first 24 hours and it was the most-viewed video on YouTube in the world in the past 24 hours. Additionally, the trailer scored 700K+ likes during the same period.## The trailer of the movie was released in multiple languages in a single video on the Saregama Tamil YouTube channel. Written, directed, and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan has been one of the biggest Tamil hits of the year and it has now reached a new milestone.## The A-rated action blockbuster has become the first Tamil movie of 2024 to reach the 100 crores gross collection mark at the Indian box office. The movie grossed approximately 98.50 crores in 15 days and at the time of penning this piece, it has crossed the milestone of 100 crores gross in India within 16 days.## Raayan is already the biggest Tamil grosser of the year domestically by beating Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which flopped at approximately 96 crores gross collection. Chennai, August 7 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has emerged as the third most-watched Indian movie of 2024 on Netflix. The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial was originally released in theatres and emerged as a big box office blockbuster by grossing over 100 crores worldwide.## Maharaja debuted on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after the blockbuster theatrical release. It scored 3.20 million views in the opening weekend on Netflix, followed by a huge 6.10 million views in the second week (July 15-21), and another 3.60 million views during the week of July 22-28. ## In the fourth week (July 29 - August 4), the movie generated 2.60 million views, pushing its total viewership to 15.50 million views in 24 days. This makes it the third most-watched Indian title of 2024 on the streamer, behind only Laapataa Ladies (17.10 million views) and Crew (17.90 million views) and by far the most-watched South Indian title of the year.## Maharaja will most likely become Netflix's top-viewed Indian movie of the year by next week which will be a huge achievement for a regional Indian title after its blockbuster theatrical success. ## Produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios, Maharaja was released on June 14 to all-around praise from critics and audiences alike. Chennai, August 4 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has become the highest-grossing film for the actor Dhanush after the excellent second weekend at the worldwide box office in which it also became the actor's third 100 crores grosser.## Directed by Dhanush, Raayan has beaten the entire run of Thiruchitrambalam (117 crores worldwide gross) on its second Sunday in just 10 days. The movie is looking to score around 10 crores worldwide on Sunday, which will take its total collection to around 123 crores gross. ## Interestingly, Thiruchitrambalam became actor Dhanush's first 100 crores grosser in 2022, followed by Vaathi which grossed approximately 116 crores in 2023. Chennai, July 29 - Tamil star Dhanush scored a much deserving success with his latest action thriller Raayan after the excellent 3-day opening weekend at the worldwide box office. The A-rated blockbuster scored close to 70 crores gross collection, already one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of the year.## Directed and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan witnessed a continued jump over the weekend at the domestic box office, which is not a regular case for South Indian films. With approximately 49 crores gross collection, the movie scored the second biggest opening weekend for a Tamil title of 2024, behind only Indian 2. ## In Tamil Nadu, Raayan minted approximately 34 crores gross, followed by approximately 5.50+ crores in Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telengana). The rest of the domestic market contributed approximately 10 crores gross collection. ## At the overseas box office, the movie has had a superb weekend with approximately 22 crores gross. This led to approximately 71+ crores worldwide cume, making it the 6th highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024. Chennai, July 27 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has had an excellent start at the domestic box office with approximately 15.75 crores gross collection. It is now the biggest opening for actor Dhanush, beating his previous high of approximately 12 crore gross with Karnan in 2021. ## At the overseas box office, the A-rated title scored approximately 7.25 crores gross, for approximately 23 crores worldwide on opening day, again the biggest for the actor beating Captain Miller which scored approximately 14 crores gross.## The domestic box office of 15.75 crores of Raayan includes approximately 10.60 crores in Tamil Nadu which is again the biggest for the actor in the state. The Telugu version of the movie also fared decently with approximately 2 crores gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by 1.80 crores in Karnataka, 90 lakh in Kerala and 40 lakh in the rest of India market.## It is the second biggest opening for a Tamil movie of 2024, behind only Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which scored 30.25 crores gross in India and 56.25 crores worldwide on the opening day. Gokulam Movies, the leading distribution studio in Kerala has grabbed theatrical rights of the movie. ## According to the Kerala film industry tracker AB George, GOAT Kerala theatrical rights have been sold for 17 crore which is a record deal for a non-Malayalam movie. The previous record also belonged to Vijay when his Leo was sold for 16 crores and it was also bought by Gokulam Movies. ## Thalapathy Vijay is arguably the biggest non-Malayalam superstar in Kerala with an incredible box office pull. Chennai, July 24 - Amid the speculations of which film, between Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon (NTR 31) director Prashanth Neel will start next, a new report has emerged that the blockbuster filmmaker is already in talks with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for not one but two movies. ## Earlier this year, it was reported that Neel would be collaborating with Ajith Kumar for a standalone movie, and now, according to the report by DT Next, the duo may also do one more film in Prashanth Cinematic Universe which could pave the way for Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 3.## "Ajith and Prashanth had a meeting during the Vidaa Muyarchi schedule break last month. Prashanth has asked over three years of Ajith's time. Their first collaboration, which could be AK 64, will be a standalone project. This will go on floors in 2025 and be released in 2026", says the report.## The report further said that Hombale Films will bankroll both projects and the climax of the second film will lead to KGF 3 and Ajith Kumar's character is touted to be the biggest of them in Prashanth Cinematic Universe. ## It is, however, to be noted that neither Prashanth Neel nor Hombale Films have confirmed the existence of the Prashanth Cinematic Universe. However, there have been many reports and speculations along with fan theories which suggest there might be this KGF universe where its characters might collide at some point. But as said, there is no official confirmation about the same yet.## Ajith Kumar, meanwhile, recently wrapped up the shoot of Vidaa Muyarchi, scheduled to be released later this year and will join the sets of Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly soon which will hit big screens on Pongal 2025. Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. The movie's 69 crores domestic collection includes an estimated 35.50+ crores in Tamil Nadu and 17 crores in Telugu states.## Language-wise, the original Tamil version grossed an estimated 48.50+ crores, followed by 16+ crores in Telugu, and 4.50+ crores collection in Hindi. Shankar, scored the biggest opening of 2024 for a Tamil movie at the domestic and worldwide box office by a long margin. ## The sequel to the 1996 film Indian, Indian 2 grossed an estimated 30.25 crores in India and 26 crores overseas for 56.25 crores worldwide on opening day. It has beaten Dhanush's Captain Miller, which scored approximately 14 crores on its opening day, to become the biggest Tamil opener of the year.## With the opening day collection, Indian 2 became the 6th highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 at the domestic as well as worldwide box office, and with the second-day box office figures, it has become the third biggest grosser after Maharaja (104 crores gross approx.) and Aranmanai 4 (99 crores gross approx.) worldwide. ## Indian 2 stars Kamal Haasan, reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, leading a massive ensemble which also includes Siddharth, S.
