Unlike "Thor: Ragnarok", the 4th installment in this superhero franchise got low ratings from critics and audiences alike.## Thor will return with the 5th installment, but after "Thor: Love and Thunder", the speculations are making noise about who will direct it and will Chris Hemsworth return to play this iconic comic-book superhero. Interestingly, the post-credits card ending "Thor 4" was a surprise for the eight-time Marvel star as it introduces a major MCU superhero. ## Well, in an interview with Insider (via comicbook, Waititi revealed that he would love to return to the director's chair and complete his Thor trilogy only with Hemsworth, who, in one of the recent interviews said that he would play Thor "until someone says get off the stage".## "That was a surprise to me, too. Mumbai, July 11 - Marvel/Disney's Thor: Love and Thunder packed a solid punch with a very good extended opening weekend at the Indian box office, becoming another Marvel tentpole to open big in the country. ## The Chris Hemsworth-starrer superhero movie, despite the mixed talks, scored a brilliant 82 crores gross ($10.3 million) over the first 4-days weekend. The movie opened to 23.11 crores gross on Thursday but slipped 37% on Friday to 14.47 crores. At this time, it looked like the movie is getting affected due to the mixed WOM, but it was not that case as it jumped again on Saturday and Sunday for 21.23 crores and 23.36 crores gross, respectively. ## The English version of "Thor 4" is leading the charge at the Indian BO with 54.67 crores gross in 4 days, followed by the Hindi version with 23.24 crores. The other versions, including Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada scored approx. 4.10 crores gross. India was the fifth biggest international contributor to "Thor 4's" collection on the opening weekend.## Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor 4" has become the highest-grossing Thor movie in India, crossing the lifetime collection of "Thor: Ragnarok", which scored approx. 75 crores gross in 2017. It is currently the 17th highest-grossing Hollywood movie in India but is likely to finish under the top 10. Taika Waititi returned to direct his second Thor movie and also re-introduces Jane Foster after being sidelined since 2014's "Thor: The Dark World".## "Thor: Love and Thunder", however, is not being loved by the critics while the audience reception is also mixed. The critics' score of the latest Thor movie is almost similar to the second movie in the franchise, "Thor: The Dark World", with 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thor 2 has a 66% critics' score. ## Regardless of what critics are saying, "Thor 4" put up a thunderous show at the domestic as well as international box office, scoring a mighty $303 million globally, which is the 3rd highest weekend for any Hollywood movie during the pandemic and the 2nd best of 2022, behind "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness".## At the domestic (North America) box office, "Thor: Love and Thunder" scored the biggest opening weekend as compared to each of the previous three Thor movies with $144 million. Previously, "Thor: Ragnarok" had the record of the biggest opening in this Marvel franchise with $122.7 million in the first weekend in 2017. ## Interestingly, the box office of this superhero franchise has witnessed growth with each movie from their previous movie. The first Thor movie was released in 2011 with a domestic opening weekend of $65.7 million. Later when "Thor: The Dark World" was released in 2013, it outscored the first movie by collecting $85.7 million while "Thor: Ragnarok" carried this trend in 2017 followed by "Thor 4". ## The future of "Thor: Love and Thunder" might go with the "Doctor Strange 2" way. The domestic opening weekend of the superhero flick slightly came lower than the industry's projection of $150M-$170M but performed way better overseas by coming ahead of the projection. ## "Thor: Love and Thunder" is one of the lowest-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe movies of all time with a critics' score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that did not come in its way to differ its target at the domestic box office. "Captain America 4" will be his first Marvel movie. ## Mackie will be headlining the feature film, reprising his long-time Marvel character of Sam Wilson, but not, however, Wilson's long-time alter ego and Captain America sidekick, Falcon. This change happened, thanks to the events of 2021's Marvel's Disney+ series, "Falcon and the Winter Soldier", which saw Wilson finally accept the shield and mantle of Captain America. ## The shooting timeline for the 4th Captain America film is yet to be decided. At the domestic (North America) box office, the superhero flick is projected to deliver over $100 million in its opening weekend, which will be the first time during the covid-19 pandemic when two back-to-back domestic weekends will see $100 million-plus openers after "Minions: The Rise of Gru". ## Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor 4", according to box office pro is looking to earn between $135M-$165M in its opening domestic weekend. The opening weekend projection of the film is tracking ahead of its predecessor, "Thor: Ragnarok", which debuted with $122.7 million in November 2017. ## The box office projection of the 4th Thor installment is closer to the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5 million in May 2017) and Captain Marvel ($153.4 million in March 2019). There is a real chance that "Thor 4" may beat both of these movies and take one of the biggest Marvel openings ever. ## There is a possibility that critics' reviews might impact those projections in the final hours before release. Mumbai, July 6 - Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder is all set to hammer at the Indian box office from this Thursday. The movie, directed by Taika Waititi, is releasing a day earlier in India than the North American release, on July 7. It will be released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. ## Marvel has always been a huge movie brand in India, and in the recent past, the studios' films have taken huge openings at the Indian box office. "Thor: Love and Thunder" is also tracking to open big as the advance booking response has been very good so far. Till 5 PM on July 6, the advance booking gross collection of Thor 4 is 11 crores, which is expected to reach 15-16 crores by the end of the day. ## The 4th installment in the Thor franchise, however, is getting a slow response as compared to the previous Marvel movie, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness", which was released a couple in May this year. At the same, "Doctor Strange 2" advance booking was around 20 crores gross while the opening day collection was 36.30 crores gross for all languages. ## Looking at the advance booking of "Thor 4" so far, the movie is still very much on track to open around 20-22 crores net with a possibility of reaching 25 crores net if critics' reviews and word of mouth are positive.
