Mumbai, November 24 - China's war epic film "The Battle At Lake Changjin", which recently surpassed fellow Chinese film "Hi, Mom" to become the highest-grossing film of 2021 worldwide, has now taken over the title of a highest-grossing movie ever in China. ## Directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui, and Dante Lam, "The Battle At Lake Changjin" dethrone the previous leader, 2017's "Wolf Warrior 2" through Wednesday (November 24). Lake Changjin currently stands an estimated RMB 5.693B ($890M) after 56 days in release. Wolf Warrior 2 had grossed an estimated RMB 5.68B during its entire box office run. ## Interestingly, both "Lake Changjin" and "Wolf Warrior 2" were led by actor Wu Jing among others. Wu Jing had also directed "Wolf Warrior 2". Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Zhao Lijian praised the achievement on social media, offering his "congratulations" to actor Wu Jing "for surpassing himself". ## "The Battle at Lake Changjin" is reportedly China's most expensive film ever made with a production budget of approx $200 million. It glorifies Chinese sacrifices and heroism during the real-life battle in 1950 that took place at the eastern front in the second battle of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.## Earlier this month, China's Film Administration outlined its 14th "Five-Year Plan" for the development of Chinese films with plans to increase movie screens, promote 10 domestic tentpoles each year, and which calls for 50 films per annum to earn more than RMB 100M ($15.6M) in the market. Los Angeles, November 24 - A sequel to 2021's family-friendly adventure "Clifford the Big Red Dog" is in development at the Paramount Pictures studio. The first film was released simultaneously theatrically and digitally on Paramount+ on November 10, 2021.## It has generated a little over $34 million at the North American box office. Though the company didn't provide any tangible metrics, Paramount says "Clifford the Big Red Dog" has become the nascent streaming service's most-watched original film to date. ## It should be noted that Paramount Plus rebranded from CBS All Access last March with limited cinematic offerings, so "Clifford" didn't have much competition to cement its place as the streamer's most popular new film.## According to Variety, the studio has not disclosed whether the 2nd installment will play only in theaters or simultaneously on digital platforms, like the original one. ## Based on the popular children's book series, "Clifford the Big Red Dog" follows 12-year-old Emily Elizabeth, who is gifted a little red puppy. Much to her surprise, she wakes up to find the petite canine has grown overnight into a giant, 10-foot hound.## It is directed by Walt Becker from a script by Jay Scherick, David Ronn, and Blaise Hemingway. In just 11 days of release, it hit the 2nd spot on the Netflix chart and is about to surpass the current No. 1 holder, "Bird Box", which raked in 282 million hours viewed in its first 28 days. ## Netflix released the new data, which ranks its most popular titles based on viewing hours, as part of its revamped and expanded Top 10 lists. Netflix says the metrics will be audited by EY, with results to be released in 2022.## In the first 3 days of release (12-14 Nov.), "Red Notice" raked in 148.7 million hours viewed and was the number 1 movie in the first three days. From November 15 to November 21, it dropped to the 2nd spot and gained 129.1 million hours viewed. Los Angeles, November 21 - Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond, "No Time To Die", is now the highest-grossing non-Chinese film at the worldwide box office. MGM/Eon/Universal's 25th Bond film, crossed "Fast & Furious 9" ($722 million WW) over the weekend for its total global box office collection of $733 million. ## Through last Sunday, "No Time To Die" became only the second Hollywood title to reach $700 million globally and the biggest Hollywood movie overseas in 2021, topped "F9". In total to date, the spy thriller has an estimated gross of $154M domestic and $579M at the international box office.## No Time to Die is released internationally by Universal and domestically through MGM's United Artists Releasing banner. The Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed opened in most overseas markets in September before it debuted in North America on October 8. Overall throughout its run, it scored the biggest pandemic opening weekend in 36 markets.## The United Kingdom is leading the overseas chart for "No Time To Die", grossing £95.2M or $128 million. It beats James Bond's "Spectre" to become the UK's 3rd highest-grossing film of all time. In China, the movie currently stands at $60.4 million after grossing half a million on Saturday there while in Australia, where it opened 9 days ago, grossed $13 million so far. ## Overall, "No Time To Die" is the third highest-grossing film of the pandemic era worldwide. Mumbai, November 17 - The moment, all Spider-Man fans around the world have been waiting for, is finally here as Sony/Marvel released the second trailer of the 3rd MCU Spider-Man flick, "No Way Home", on Wednesday (IST). The awaited 2nd trailer premiered only a month before the movie releases in theaters (Dec. 17), and it gave a closer look at what Peter Parker aka Spider-Man is going to face in the movie, which is seen as the finest Spider-Man film. ## When someone says that "No Way Home" is your film to watch out for, trust him because it is going to be that epic in many ways. It is not like the previous Spidey movies where Peter Parker made things miserable and when they looked getting out of control, he fought with them and managed to save the universe. This time, he has many things to get right and in that process, he is going to face a Villainous Multiverse, in which, all the previous super-villains of Spider-Man movies, come face-to-face to take on Tom Holland's web-slinger. ## So this is how it all begins. Peter Parker (Tom Holland), whose identity as Spider-Man revealed at the end of 2019's "Spider-Man: Far From Home", seeks the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to undo the chaos created by him. However, in the process of hiding his identity, the multiverse gets open that unleashes a suite of villains from previous "Spider-Man" franchises, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin from 2002's "Spider-Man", Alfred Molina's Otto Octavius from 2004's "Spider-Man 2", Thomas Haden Church's Sandman from 2007's "Spider-Man 3", Rhys Ifans' the Lizard from 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man" and Jamie Foxx's Electro from 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".## It was already revealed through confirmed reports and major leaks that the previous Spider-Man villains would be featuring in "No Way Home", their inclusion had also led fans to expect that the actors who previously played the iconic web-slinger - Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield - would be making their presence in the second trailer. However, this didn't happen despite Molina's Doc Ock does not consider Holland to be Peter Parker, as shown in the trailer. ## The 2nd "No Way Home" trailer was first launched at a fan event in Los Angeles, where Tom Holland and others were present. While the guessing game is still on about the inclusion of Tobey and Garfield - Holland did appear to hint that such a moment could be in the film by referring to shooting a "true moment in cinematic history".## Holland did not spill the details, but he said that when Marvel first pitched him the movie, "I was like, 'That's never going to work. There's no way you're going to be able to get that done'. And they did". He added, "You're going to see a style of fighting in this film that you've never seen in a Spider-Man movie before. The "Fast & Furious" actor, however, wants to play James Bond in a future Bond film and follow in Sean Connery's footsteps. In case you are not aware, The Rock's grandfather, Peter Fanene Maivia, was a villain in 1967's Bond film "You Only Live Twice". ## However, unlike his grandfather who took part in an action sequence against Connery's James Bond, Dwayne Johnson doesn't want to play the villain and only has the desire to play the iconic 007 agent. ## "Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery", Johnson told Esquire in a Q&A video interview. "It was very, very cool. And I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don't wanna be a villain. Gotta be Bond".## Interestingly, James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson, and Barbara Broccoli recently said in an interview that they haven't decided on who will be the next 007 agent. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, the family-friendly adventure film was released in China over the past weekend (Nov. 12) and could generate only $3.3 million in the first three days (Fri-Sun). ## "Jungle Cruise" had reportedly cost Disney around $200 million for the production. It was released in the US on July 30, simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+. It earned over $35 million at the domestic box office and estimated $30 million on Disney+ Premier Access in its first three days. Currently, it has earned over $215 million worldwide at the box office. ## The film, however, received positive word of mouth from Chinese audiences who watched the film in theaters. However, the rampant piracy, and a limited marketing effort from Disney in the "Fast & Furious" franchise-loving country, played a big part in the movie not performing well in China. ## "Jungle Cruises" scored 8.9 on Maoyan and 6.1 on Douban, similar to MGM's James Bond installment No Time to Die. While "No Time To Die" has earned $58 million so far in China after $4.4 million in its 4th weekend, Disney's film has been projected to earn a total of just $6.19 million, according to the Maoyan estimates.## A sequel to "Jungle Cruise" has been greenlit at Disney, for which, the announcement was made when the original film grossed $100 million at the North America box office. It becomes the 2nd Hollywood film, after Universal Pictures' "Fast & Furious 9", to reach the milestone during the covid-19 pandemic. It currently stands at $708 million, including $150 million in North America. ## Daniel Craig's swan song as James Bond, "No Time To Die" continued to remain strong at the domestic box office despite being available on PVOD as of this past Tuesday. It grossed $4.62 million in its 6th weekend top $150 million domestic box office. It is likely to cross "A Quiet Place part II" ($160 million) to place fifth during the pandemic. ## "No Time To Die" is currently the 6th highest-grossing film in the Bond franchise at the domestic box office, behind only the 2002 "Die Another Day" ($161M), $167 million in 2006, $168 million in 2008, $304 million in 2012, and $200 million in 2015. Inflation notwithstanding, the 25th Bond film is the 3rd highest at the worldwide BO in the franchise, after "Skyfall" ($1.1 billion), and "Spectre" ($880 million). ## Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed will most likely cross "F9's" global box office total of $721 million, including $549 million overseas, by the end of the next weekend, to become the top-grossing Hollywood film during the pandemic. It has earned $126 million in the United Kingdom so far. In China, it has earned $58 million in the first 17-days of release there.
