Marvel Studios 'The Marvels' Will Release Without The IMAX Format

Los Angeles, July 30 - Marvel Studios' next theatrical tentpole "The Marvels" is getting ready to release in November this year. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the movie is the sequel to "Captain Marvel" (2019), which grossed over $1.10 billion at the global box office. It is the first female-led superhero movie to top a billion dollars at the box office.## "The Marvels" is expected to be another money spinner for Marvel and Disney, however, it will have to perform exceptionally well to top come close to its predecessor. In a major setback to the film, it won't be playing in the IMAX format due to Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi epic "Dune - Part 2" which is releasing on November 3. ## Warner Bros. has partnered with IMAX to play "Dune 2" for 5-6 weeks which means "The Marvels" will have to be without this premium format. IMAX has been a major contributor to Marvel movies so its absence will definitely make a big impact on "Captain Marvel 2's" overall box office.## In good news for the superhero movie, there are strong reports within the Hollywood media that Warner Bros. might postpone the release of "Dune 2" to next year if the SAG-AFTRA strike last longer than expected. In this case, "The Marvels" will be taking IMAX screens. ## "Right. Dune, specifically, I mean, there's another great movie coming out around [that] time, which is The Marvels from Marvel, and we can't play it because we are committed to Dune. So, Dune moves will just go over to The Marvels, and having a Marvel movie as a backup is not the worst position to be in the world", Richard Gelfond, the Chief Executive Officer, IMAX said in a recent earning call. ## "The Marvels" stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, alongside Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, Danvers, Rambeau, and Kamala team up after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.## The movie is scheduled to release on November 10, 2023. Mumbai, July 29 - One of the finest filmmakers ever, Christopher Nolan set to have his first 100 crores net movie at the Indian box office as his latest atom bomb flick "Oppenheimer" is fast approaching the milestone. ## Based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, an American theoretical physicist who was pivotal in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project, "Oppenheimer" scored over 73 crores net in the first full week in India.## The movie started the second week with a strong approx. 4.35 crores net on the second Friday before showing a jump of over 66% on the second Saturday for a 7.25 crores net collection. Mumbai, July 29 - After a decent opening day of 11.10 crores net, Karan Johar's "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" witnesses a solid jump of over 40% today, on its second at the domestic box office. Positive word of mouth comes into play today as it scores one of the biggest second-day jumps post the covid-19 pandemic for a major Bollywood release. ## The early estimates suggest the second-day collection in the range of 15.50-16.50 crores, which takes the total net collection to around 27 crores in two days. The movie is strong in multiplexes which witnesses a solid jump while non-multiplexes also show a minor improvement over opening-day sales. ## RRKPK needed a big jump today after not so strong opening day and the makers will be happy with the jump. The best-performing city of the movie is Delhi while it is also collecting well in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. ## The film should show further jump tomorrow on Sunday, though the jump wouldn't be as big as today. The movie got affected due to the release of "Oppenheimer" in its second week but did well enough to hit the box office milestone. ## "Mission Impossible 7" is the first movie for Tom Cruise to achieve the 100 crores net mark milestone at the Indian box office. The actor's previous highest-grossing film in India was "Mission Impossible 6 - Fallout" (2018) which scored approx. 81 crores net collection in its entire box office run. ## Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, "MI7" is the 12th Hollywood movie ever to reach the 100 crores net mark in India and six movies of them have been released in the post-pandemic era. Los Angeles, July 29 - Sony Pictures set to debut a Venom movie in the summer season for the first time as Tom Hardy's "Venom 3" has been confirmed to hit big screens on July 12, 2024. The first two movies, "Venom", and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" opened in the month of October in 2018 and 2021, respectively. ## "Venom 3" release date puts in-between Disney's "Mufasa: The Lion King" (July 5, 2024) and Universal Pictures' "Twisters" (July 19, 2024). Tom Hardy has written the script for the third Venom installment with Kelly Marcel, who is also stepping into the director's chair to helm the Marvel superhero movie. ## The first Venom movie was highly successful, grossing $856 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel was released during the covid-19 pandemic and still grossed $502 million. Interestingly, "Venom 2" had a bigger opening with a $90 million opening weekend in North America as compared to its predecessor's $80 million start.## Apart from the setting "Venom 3" release date, Sony made several major changes to its release calendar, including delaying "Kraven the Hunter" to August 30, 2024, from October this year and a "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" sequel to March 29, 2024, from December this year. ## Meanwhile, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse", which was supposed to hit screens on March 29, 2024, has now been postponed indefinitely by the studio due to SAG-AFTRA's strike. Dakota Johnson-led Sony's superhero movie "Madame Web", was pushed up by two days and will now be hitting cinemas on February 14, 2024, on Valentine's Day. The studio also confirmed "Bad Boys 4" for June 14, 2024, release.##

Mumbai, July 28 - Karan Johar's directorial return "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" has a decent opening at the box office. The movie started on a decent note in the morning shows but due to super solid word of mouth, it showed a very good jump in the evening and night shows. ## The early estimates suggest the opening in the range of 11-12 crores net for this Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer. The opening of the movie in the mid-10s would have been a very good one considering the budget but that is not the case anymore as it won't reach there.## RRKPK is strong in multiplexes but not that strong in single screens which is expected for this kind of genre. However, it was much for the movie to cross the double-digit mark which it has comfortably done. The opening of 11-12 crores net has given RRKPK a chance to grow over the weekend as word of mouth seems to be very positive. ## The movie should show gains on Saturday and Sunday as the 3-day weekend could well be around 40-45 crores net. Kochi, July 28 - Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan will headline his next Pan India movie "Kaantha". DQ will produce the film under his banner Wayfarer Films in association with Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media.## While the plot details of the movie are kept under wraps for now, "Kaantha will be directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, whose debut feature "Nila" (2016) won the audience award at the Cinequest San Jose Film Festival. The filmmaker also assisted Ang Lee on the Oscar-winning "Life of Pi" (2012).## The movie was announced on DQ's birthday today. The actor said in a statement that the story of "Kaantha" is "unlike anything we've seen in Indian cinema" and that he is eager to bring this movie on the screen soon. ## "Kaantha is extremely close to my heart and I've been eager to bring this to life from the day I heard the story as it's unlike anything we've seen in Indian cinema. Mumbai, July 28 - Well-known Bollywood filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari's romantic drama "Bawaal" starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor was supposed to be an experimental love story in the backdrop of World War II but it is turning into a major controversial attempt on this historical chapter.## The film has been accused of trivializing and demeaning the deaths of millions of Jews killed during the Holocaust by using Auschwitz as a metaphor for relationship problems. Many critics in India and internationally have slammed the film for drawing parallels to Jews suffering in Auschwitz camp and dying. ## Produced by Nadiadwala Entertainment, "Bawaal" tells the story of a history teacher who is embarrassed by his new wife's epilepsy. As they travel together to Europe to visit historic second world war sites, they fall in love with each other.## The movie receives a strong rebuke from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), an NGO dedicated to the well-being of Jews as well as the Holocaust victims. The NGO has issued a statement demanding the removal of the film from Amazon Prime Video which is the exclusive streaming partner of the film. ## "Auschwitz is not a metaphor. It is the quintessential example of Man's capacity for Evil. By having the protagonist in this movie declare that 'Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz', Nitesh Tiwari, trivializes and demeans the memory of 6 million murdered Jews and millions of others who suffered at the hands of Hitler's genocidal regime", SWC said in a statement.## The NGO called on Amazon to remove the movie from its platform and to stop "monetizing" the Holocaust. "If the filmmaker's goal was to gain PR for their movie by reportedly filming a fantasy sequence at the Nazi death camp, he has succeeded. Amazon Prime should stop monetizing Bawaal by immediately removing this banal trivialization of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust", the statement further read. Prime Video has not responded yet.## "Bawaal" was meant for theatrical release before makers changed their minds and send the movie directly to Amazon Prime Video.
