Mumbai, January 22 - After a dismal show in 2022, the Independence Day 2023 week is gearing up for another mega box office period as multiple Indian titles are aiming to release during this time.## Ranbir Kapoor's action thriller film "Animal" with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga was long announced to hit theaters on August 11, 2023. The highly-anticipated film will be released in multiple languages worldwide. It also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol in prominent roles.## While "Animal" is easily one of the most-awaited Bollywood flicks, it may not get the advantage of the solo release as another biggie, "Gadar 2" is eyeing the same slot. The sequel to all-time blockbuster "Gadar" stars Sunny Deol will reportedly be hitting theaters on the same day as "Animal" on August 11. ## Mahesh Babu's blockbuster "SSMB 28" with director Trivikram Srinivas will be the major Telugu biggie to release during Independence Day week this year. The movie was supposed to release on April 28 but due to the delay in shooting, the makers have postponed the release to August 11, 2023. ## As per the latest reports, superstar Rajinikanth's most-waited action comedy film "Jailer" has been shifted to an Independence Day week release. Though the makers didn't announce the release date officially it was supposed to release in April this year. It will now hit screens on August 11. ## There might be a couple of small-budget films during the same slot. However, in August month, there will be multiple films hitting theaters. It is the remake of the Malayalam movie "Driving Licence" and also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty as the female leads. ## The trailer of "Selfiee" was launched on Sunday (January 22) and going by the first look at the trailer, the movie promises a crazy fun ride between a movie star and his fan. Akshay Kumar plays the role of a superstar while Emraan plays the role of an inspector who happens to be his die-hard fan. ## The trailer shows how a misunderstanding leads to escalating into a feud between the two which is played out in front of the entire country. South Indian Pongal/Sankranthi Blockbusters Hit 700 Crores At The Worldwide Box Office

Chennai, January 22 - The year 2023 has opened with a bang for the Indian film industry, led by South Indian films as the gamble to release four big films around the same time on this Pongal/Sankranthi festival has paid off. ## Pongal/Sankranthi has always been a lucrative festival for South Indian films at the box office, and this year was no different with four biggies released and got succeeded. Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar released their biggies "Varisu" and "Thunivu", respectively. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna brought their films "Waltair Veerarya" and "Veera Simha Reddy". ## All four aforementioned films were having over 400 crores on their shoulders as far as the theatrical share collection is concerned. The combined business of all four films has already crossed the break-even mark as the overall gross collection of them has rocked 700 crores at the global box office. Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" is leading over the other three films though it is yet to achieve its individual break-even target. ## Have a look at the total collection details of all four films worldwide (as of January 21) - ## Varisu - The family action drama film has grossed approx. 244 crores worldwide, including 166 crores domestically so far in just 11 days and it will soon turn into a profitable venture for the investors despite the high stake. The movie was valued at around 140 crores and has already recovered approx. 128 crores, needing another 10-12 crores for the break-even. It has a direct clash with "Thunivu", and despite that, the movie has managed to cross the 100 crores mark in Tamil Nadu state. ## Waltair Veerayya - The action drama film has become the first clean hit for Megastar Chiranjeevi since "Khaidi No. 150" (2017). It has so far grossed approx. 178 crores worldwide, including approx. 153 crores in India in just 9 days. It was valued at approx. 89 crores and has already managed to make approx. 17 crores profit. It will soon enter a 200 crores club worldwide. ## Thunivu - Another film that has managed to achieve the break-even target within two weeks. In just 11 days since its release, the heist action thriller film has grossed approx. 168 crores, including approx. 118 crores domestically. It was valued at around 85 crores and it has surpassed this mark and turned into a profitable venture. ## Veera Simha Reddy - The Nandamuri Balakrishna's action drama gets saved by the Sankranthi holidays. It will eventually achieve the break-even target but is unlikely to big a big profitable film for the involved parties. Despite all this, it has become the highest-grossing film for NBK. The movie so far has grossed approx. 120 crores worldwide, including approx. 106 crores domestically in 10 days. ## The combined gross collection of all four aforementioned films stands at approx. 710 crores (as of January 21) and the said films are likely to add another, at least, 30-40 crores more to the tally.## Stay tuned...

Mumbai, January 22 - Yash Raj Films' highly-anticipated spy action thriller Pathaan, starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan is all set for a monstrous start at the box office. ## Directed by Siddharth Anand, "Pathaan" is witnessing phenomenal response in advance booking and becomes the biggest pre-sales scorer Bollywood flick post the covid-19 pandemic. It has crossed Ayan Mukerji's "Brahmatra Part One: Shiva". ## "Brahmastra", which was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2022, scored 17.70 crores gross in the advance booking itself for the opening day. Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" has crossed that mark with three days still to go for the release and it is likely to score one of the biggest advances of all time. ## Meanwhile, the upcoming biggie has already become the highest pre-sales scorer Indian film of 2023, crossing Nandamuri Balakrishna's Telugu action drama "Veera Simha Reddy" which recently scored approx. 16.20 crores gross for the opening day.## Also starring John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, "Pathaan" has so far sold approx. 300K tickets at three national cinema chains while the overall sold tickets count for the opening day is close to 580K. Guwahati, January 22 - Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's spy action thriller Pathaan is set to big screens on January 25, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. The movie, however, has been at the center of controversy, and recently, a group of people allegedly stormed into a cinema hall in Assam's Narengi on Friday, vandalizing property and burning down posters of the movie. ## Shah Rukh Khan has expressed concerns over such incidents and dialed Assam CM to look into this matter. The CM took to his Twitter account to announce that his government will do anything to protect law and order in the state and ensures full support for the screening of the film. ## "Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we talked today morning at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during screening of his film. I assured him that it's duty of state govt to maintain law & order. The movie achieved the feat in 10 days after debuting in theaters on January 11. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" has so far grossed approx. 159 crores at the domestic box office, including approx. 100 crores in Tamil Nadu. It has become the 6th straight film for Thalapathy to enter the prestigious box office club in the state. ## "Varisu" has been performing exceptionally well ever since it was released in theaters. Another film from the same studio, which stunned one and all with its phenomenal success was actor, and filmmaker Rishab Shetty's Kantara. ## Rooted in folklore, "Kantara" made a big punch at the box office and grossed over 400 crores worldwide against a budget of just around 15 crores. It is one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema, and with such massive numbers, the second part of the film was inevitable which was recently confirmed by Hombale Films. ## While "Kantara 2" was already announced, it is now revealed that it will be a prequel rather than continuing the story with a sequel part, Rishab Shetty has reportedly confirmed the development. "Kantara 2" will delve into the back story of folklore that features in the first part. ## Rishab Shetty has started working on the script and he has gone to the forests of coastal Karnataka to conduct research for the film.
