Kochi, March 26 — The Malayalam film industry is on the verge of joining only four other Indian film industries in scoring a 50 crore opening at the worldwide box office as superstar Mohanlal's highly-anticipated action thriller L2: Empuraan has created history for it. ## Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan is all set to storm the box office after scoring sensational advance sales in India and worldwide. The film's opening day pre-sales have crossed 50 crores gross globally, making it the first Mollywood title to do so. ## Ever since the advance booking of Empuraan was opened, it has been breaking records with each passing day, and to be able to score more than 2x of the previous biggest Malayalam opener Marakkar (20 crores gross), in pre-sales only, is a remarkable feat no one saw coming. ## Previously, Bollywood ("Chennai Express"), Tollywood ("Baahubali"), Kollywood ("Kabali"), and Sandalwood ("KGF 2") were able to score a 50 crore opening. Mumbai, March 25 - Dharma Productions' biographical drama Kesari Chapter 2 first teaser was launched on March 24 and it has been met with a unanimous positive reception all around. It stars superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead role alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. ## Kesari 2 is based on the life of C Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who fought for the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Kochi, March 25 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan has become the first Malayalam film ever to sell 1 million tickets in advance on the online ticketing platform, Book My Show with 2 days still left for the release. ## The advance booking of Empuraan was opened on Friday (March 21) and since then, it has been selling tickets like hotcakes. On the first day, the movie sold a record-breaking 628K tickets on BMS, 163K on the second day, 110K on the third day and 100K+ tickets on 4th day. ## Of all the tickets sold, around 70%-80% have been sold in the home state, Kerala. On the opening day, the movie sold tickets worth approximately 15 crore gross in India, including around 10 crore gross in Kerala. It has already shattered the opening day to opening weekend record for a Mollywood title, be it in pre-sales or box office opening. ## Empuraan has guaranteed to score 50+ crores on the first day and 100+ crores at the opening weekend at the worldwide box office. Mumbai, March 24 - The hugely-anticipated trailer of superstar Salman Khan's action drama Sikandar was launched on March 23 and it received a blockbuster response across social media platforms with one of the highest viewership for an Indian movie of the year. ## The trailer of Sikandar has been trending at number 1 on YouTube in the first 24 hours, it generated 48+ million views on the platform. Chennai, March 24 - Thalapathy Vijay's cinematic farewell Jana Nayagan has officially been confirmed to hit the big screen during the Pongal 2026 festival. The movie is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. ## Jana Nayagan marks a significant milestone for Vijay as it is potentially the last film of his career before his full-time political entry. It has already become the biggest Malayalam opener with pre-sales only but there is more to come. ## The pre-sales of Empuraan on the opening day are 35+ crores, and the same has crossed 50 crores gross for the entire opening weekend at the worldwide box office, with 3 days still left for the release. It has become the first Malayalam movie to hit 50 crores in sales before its release. ## At the overseas box office, Empuraan's pre-sales gross is nearing $4 million (30+ crore gross) while domestic sales are 23+ crore gross. Mumbai, March 23 - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has concluded its investigation and has filed the closure report into the mysterious death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, according to PTI. The report was submitted to a special court in Mumbai, which will now decide whether to accept it or order further investigation. ## Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, 2020, at the age of 34. The CBI has determined that the actor's death was a case of suicide, with no evidence of foul play or criminal conspiracy. The CBI took over the case in August 2020 from the Bihar Police after the Supreme Court ordered it to conduct a thorough probe since there were conflicting reports of the Patna and Mumbai Police.## Subsequently, Sushant's father KK Singh lodged an FIR with the Patna Police in Bihar accusing actor Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetting his son's suicide. A counter-complaint by Chakraborty against Rajput's family was also investigated. The closure report addresses both cases, finding no substantiation for the allegations made by either party. Forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) supported the CBI's conclusion.## The investigation involved recording statements from Chakraborty and others close to Rajput, as well as examining medical and forensic evidence, including a laptop, camera, and mobile phones. Despite extensive scrutiny, no evidence emerged to suggest anyone drove Rajput to suicide or that his death involved foul play. The report effectively clears Rhea Chakraborty, her family, and others named in the initial FIRs, ending a high-profile case that sparked widespread speculation and media attention.## The Mumbai Police had initially treated the death as a suicide, finding no signs of forced entry or a suicide note. However, the case gained significant traction after Rajput's family pursued legal action, leading to CBI involvement. While the closure report marks the agency's final stance, Rajput's family retains the option to file a protest petition if they disagree with the findings.
