Chennai, October 17 - Mani Ratnam's period action drama Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie of 2022, after crossing the biggest Bollywood grosser of the year Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva in just 17 days.## Ponniyin Selvan - 1, which is already the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, has so far grossed around 440 crores worldwide in 17 days. Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra has grossed 430 crores worldwide and is now the 4th biggest Indian movie of the year. ## The top two films are KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR with approx. 1,210 crores and 1,115 crores, respectively. PS-1 is also nearing the 200 crores mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu. Chennai, October 14 - Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster movie Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the biggest-grossing movie of all-time in Tamil Nadu state, after beating Kamal Haasan's all-time blockbuster Vikram, which was released in June this year. ## "Ponniyin Selvan", which is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, has surpassed the total lifetime collection of "Vikram" in Tamil Nadu in just 15 days. The Lokesh Kangaraj-directed movie grossed 180.57 crores, and with today's collection, "PS-1" has reached approx. 182 crores in the home state. It is all set to become the first movie ever to enter the 200 crores club. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, "PS-1" has not only beaten "Vikram" in Tamil Nadu but also overtaken its worldwide lifetime collection (414.43 crores) to become the second biggest Tamil movie of all time, behind only Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's "2.0" (744 crores). Chennai, October 12 - Tamil star 'Chiyaan' Vikram has done with all the promotional activities for Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1, which turned out to be the biggest grosser of his career. The multi-starrer period action drama is only the third Tamil movie ever to gross 400 crores at the worldwide box office. ## Chiyaan Vikram is now set to start his next film, tentatively referred to as Chiyaan 61 with director Pa Ranjith. The movie was announced some time back and as per the reports, the test shoot for the film has begun today and the first schedule of shooting is being planned to kickstart in the next couple of days.## "Chiyaan 61" is touted to be the next big thing in the Kollywood film industry. Produced by Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green, the movie is generating a lot of curiosity among the audience despite knowing that it hasn't started the shoot yet. ## Pa Ranjith is known for his unique cinema and as per him, his film with Vikram will be an interesting world and will give assurance to a community that has been searching for it for a long time. It is said to be a period drama set in Kolar gold fields in the 1800s. Chennai, October 10 - Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has witnessed a drop on its second Monday, but not before entering the 400 crores gross club at the worldwide box office. ## The period action drama film scored an estimated 6 crores gross on its 11th day, dropping approx. 70% against the second Sunday while the same is around 74% from the first Monday. The big drop, however, was expected after the kind of the days the movie had at the box office. ## The second Monday estimate collection helps the movie to reach approx. 260 crores gross at the domestic box office while the worldwide stands at approx. 410 crores (counting expected overseas collection on the second Monday). In Tamil Nadu, "PS-1" is around 170 crores in 11 days and is expected to become the biggest movie in the state by the end of the second week. ## "PS-1" will have a free run at the Tamil Nadu box office till Diwali. It has a real chance to enter the 500 crores club and to become only the second Tamil movie ever to do so after Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's "2.0". ## On the other hand, the blockbuster Kannada movie, Kantara has had a sensational hold on its second Monday for an estimated 5.20 crores net or 6.10 crores gross collection, dropping just 46% from Sunday. Released on the same day as "PS-1" - "Kantara" scored a bigger second Monday (official numbers may vary) than Mani Ratnam's directorial though the collection is nowhere near due to the limited regional release. The total domestic gross total of "Kantara" now reached approx. 70 crores. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer adventure action thriller is now confirmed to break into 100 crores domestic gross for the Kannada version, and it will achieve this feat during the third weekend. The Mani Ratnam-directed film has crossed Rajinikanth's 2.0.## The period action drama film has so far grossed $5.56 million through the second Sunday (final number yet to report), overtaking "2.0" which grossed approx. $5.51 million in 2018. It is currently the 18th highest-grossing Indian film in North America. ## Among the films released in 2022 so far in the USA, "PS-1" is the 4th highest-grossing, after RRR, Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva, and KGF 2. It is expected to finish with 4th biggest unless it really pushes hard to topple both "Brahmastra", and "KGF 2".## "Ponniyin Selvan - 1", on the other hand, has also become the highest-grossing Indian movie in 2022 in the United Kingdom. Chennai, October 9 - Blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 sees a small jump in its second Sunday box office collection at the domestic box office, after taking a huge jump of over 65% on Saturday. The collection, however, is huge with an estimated 18-19 crores gross on Sunday. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, "PS-1" has been doing exceptionally well so far and with Sunday's estimates, the total domestic gross collection has crossed the 250 crores mark for around 253 crores. At the Tamil Nadu box office, "PS-1" scored an estimated 14-15 crores on Sunday, pushing the total collection in the state to around 168 crores. ## "PS-1" has already become the second biggest movie in Tamil Nadu, and by the end of the second week, it is expected to become the biggest ever by crossing Kamal Haasan's "Vikram" which grossed approx. 180.50 crores. "PS-1" is on its way to becoming the first film ever to score 200 crores gross in Tamil Nadu state, and with the current trend, it may reach there by the end of the third weekend. ## The movie is also doing well in the dubbed Hindi version and reached about 21.80 crores gross, including an estimated 2.20 crores on Sunday. It is eyeing 30+ crores gross in the Hindi version in its lifetime run. ## On the other hand, Kannada sensation Kantara has crossed 50 crores net, after an estimated 9-9.50 crores on its second Sunday. Today was the biggest day for the movie so far at the domestic box office and with this, the movie has reached about 66 crores gross at the worldwide box office. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer adventure action thriller film is on its way to becoming another Kannada movie to score 100 crores at the box office. Chennai, October 9 - After delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of Vikram, legendary actor Kamal Haasan has resumed the shoot of his most-awaited vigilante action drama Indian 2 with director Shankar. The movie is the sequel to their 1996 path-breaking blockbuster film. ## The journey for "Indian 2" hasn't had a smooth one as it had to go through many delays and postponements due to financial and other issues. There was a time when the movie almost got shelved, but thanks to the continued efforts by the producers, the shoot recently resumed and now currently going on in full swing. ## The movie will feature Kamal Haasan in the lead role along with Kajal Agarwal as the female lead, Gulshan Grover, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, and Bobby Simha, among others in supporting roles. Meanwhile, the makers are planning to wrap up the shoot by the first quarter of 2023 while they reportedly have release plans locked. ## According to Pinkvilla sources, the "Indian 2" team is targeting either a Dussehra or Diwali 2023 release across the country in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. Mumbai, October 9 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is rocking at the box office as it crossed the 350 crores mark in just 9 days. The Hindi version of the movie was released by Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios.## Jayantilal Gada has had success this year with the Hindi version of South Indian films like "RRR", "Vikram", and "Sita Ramam" along with "PS-1", which has so far scored over 16 crores net. Interestingly, there will be the second parts of "Vikram" and "Ponniyin Selvan", and Jayantilal Gada believes that these two films will be huge hits in the Hindi version. ## "Vikram has established the future of this franchise in Hindi belts. Part 2 will be a blockbuster. The same can be said for PS 2 as well. More and more people will watch both Vikram and PS 1 on the OTT world until the sequel arrives. If Sita Ramam team decides to make a sequel, even that will be a success story in Hindi", the producer said during the conversation with Pinkvilla. ## Pen Studios has been a regular collaborator of South Indian films for the Hindi market. The total domestic gross collection is now approx. 235 crores. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, "PS-1" has crossed the 150 crores mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu, after scoring an estimated 11-12 crore gross on the second Friday. It is the fastest film ever to reach the milestone and is only the third film after "Vikram" and "Baahubali The Conclusion" to do so. ## "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1" is sure to become the biggest grosser in Tamil Nadu while it also has real shot to become the first ever to enter 200 crores club. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the movie is performing very well and sees a jump of almost 100% on its 9th day for an estimated 1.70 crores net. Chennai, October 7 - Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 scores excellent second Friday at the domestic box office after registering one of the biggest first weeks for an Indian movie. ## The epic period action drama film had grossed over 321 crores worldwide in the first week and begins the second week with a solid estimated 11-12 crores gross for all languages. The drop from Sunday is approx. 23% which is excellent hold. ## The movie grossed approx. 132 crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu in the first week, and adds another 7-8 crores more on the second Friday. The total gross collection of the movie in the state is approx. 138 crores which are the 5th highest of all time. By the end of the 2nd weekend, the movie will become the second biggest movie in the state, and then the race to become the biggest will start. ## On the other hand, the Kannada blockbuster Kantara is in a rampage mode and starts the second weekend with a solid estimated 5-5.25 crores net.
