Mumbai, February 8 - In recent times, a couple of old Bollywood films had a successful second chance after not getting much in their original runs. Well, the list has another title in the form of romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane. ## Re-released amid almost zero buzz on February 7, the heartbreaking romantic tale stunned the trade with its opening of 4.25+ crores net, more than 3x of the original run opening day collection. The opening was possible due to the film's immense popularity on television. ## On the second day of re-release, Sanam Teri Kasam witnessed a a jump of around 15% to earn approximately 5-5.25 crores net collection which is excellent, pushing the total to around 9.50 crores net. With this, it has outgrossed its lifetime original domestic collection of 9 crores net in just 2 days. ## Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam will eye another jump on Sunday as opening weekend can rise to around 15 crores which is just outstanding. It was a disaster in its first attempt 9 years ago in 2016 but has managed to change its fortune with a repeat run. ## Legendary Christopher Nolan's epic sci-fi adventure Interstellar is heading for a very good opening weekend in India upon its re-release. The film scored an opening of around 2.40 crores net and on its second day, it scored a jump of around 40% for approximately 3.25 crores net. ## In the first 2 days of re-release, Interstellar has scored approximately 5.65 crores net in India with opening weekend expected to be around 9 crores which is fantastic. Mumbai, February 8 - The mega blockbuster Chinese animated sequel Ne Zha 2 has done the unthinkable and entered uncharted box office territory by becoming the first film ever to score a $1 billion gross collection at the China box office. ## The direct sequel to the 2019 film Ne Zha, Ne Zha 2's running gross collection is $989+ million (RMB 7.2 billion) as of 9 PM local China time on its 11th day (Saturday). The film is likely to enter the $1 billion club at the end of the day and by the first hour of its 12th day, second Sunday. ## Before unlocking the billion club at the China box office, Ne Zha 2 scripted history on Saturday by becoming the highest-grossing movie ever in a single market, beating the Hollywood blockbuster 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens which grossed $936.7 million in North America. ## Ne Zha 2 has been running riot since its opening during the Chinese New Year weekend on January 29. Earlier, it set the single-film box office record for the Lunar New Year in China box office history and also outgrossed The Battle at Lake Changjin (RMB 5.77 billion) in just 9 days to become the biggest grosser in China. ## The film's lifetime box office projection has been on the rise with its sensational day-wise trend. According to Disney (via THR), the trailer launch in Alabama drew the most views ever for a Marvel YouTube live-stream, in addition to becoming the No. 1 trending video on YouTube. ## Among the top 10 most-watched Marvel movie's teaser/trailers on the first day, The Fantastic Four: First Steps ranks 6th in the list. Mumbai, February 5 - The box office insanity is at its peak as Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 has gone bonkers in the domestic market over the Lunar New Year holiday weekend. The movie is setting new day-wise box office records and is about to become the biggest grosser in the country. ## Released on January 29 on Wednesday, the sequel to the 2019 movie took a massive opening of approximately $68 million before exploding during the Friday-Sunday weekend. It grossed an insane approximately $666 million (RMB 4.84B) in the first 7 days. ## This is the single-film box office record for the Chinese New Year period in the history of the Chinese box office. It is set to become the biggest grosser in China by beating 2021's The Battle at Lake Changjin, which grossed RMB 5.77 billion ($800 million) by Thursday (9 days) already. ## According to Deadline, the total Mainland grosses of all movies reached RMB 9.51B ($1.3 billion) from January 28-February 4, making it the biggest Lunar New Year weekend by outgrossing the previous record of RMB 8.02 billion. From the same period last year, China's box office saw an insane increase of 234%.## The animated franchise has historically dominated the box office as the original Ne Zha is the 5th highest-grossing title ever at the China box office with RMB 5.03 billion. The latest sequel is projected to become the first $1 billion grosser in the market and is expected to finish its run with $1.2+ billion. Superstar Akshay Kumar, who has begun the year with decent success in the form of Sky Force, is looking to continue the momentum with the upcoming films over the next couple of years. ## It was revealed a couple of days ago that the Akshay-fronted biopic of C. Shankaran Nair has been titled Kesari 2. It was reported that the movie would be postponed from March 14, and now, according to the report by Bollywood Hungama, Dharma Productions has scheduled it for an April 18 release in cinemas worldwide. ## Instead of Kesari 2, Dharma Productions has slotted romance drama Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, for March 14 release on the occasion of the Holi festival. The movie was supposed to hit the big screens on February 21 after earlier getting postponed from November 2024. ## Meanwhile, with Kesari 2 heading for an April 2025 release, the report further stated that Akshay and Arshad Warsi-fronted highly-awaited courtroom comedy drama Jolly LLB 3, which is scheduled for April 10 release, has been postponed to August this year. It is said that producer Karan Johar and Akshay agreed on the changes in release dates. ## One more big Dharma Productions venture of the year, rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, is reportedly getting delayed to the second half of 2025. Hyderabad, February 5 - After a back-to-back couple of box office failures, Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya's romantic action thriller Thandel is gearing up to hit the big screens on February 7 amid high expectations. The movie has created a good buzz and is set for a better start this weekend. ## Thandel reunites Naga Chaitanya with actress Sai Pallavi after the superhit Love Story (2021), which was the only solo hit for the former post the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie is directed by Chandu Mondeti, whose last directorial, Karthikeya 2, was a huge blockbuster at the box office. ## Despite poor recent records for Chaitanya, Thandel has managed to fetch career-best pre-release theatrical business for the actor. According to T2BLive, the Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) business of the movie is valued at approximately 27.50 crores, including 10.50 crores for the Nizam area. ## Apart from AP/TG, the rest of India business is at 3.50 crores, while overseas business is locked at 6 crore, for total worldwide theatrical business at 37 crores. The Allu Arjun-fronted Pan India movie has almost finished its box office run and recently started streaming in all versions with added runtime. ## The action drama debuted on Netflix on January 30, and in the opening weekend, it generated 5.8 million views across languages. This is the third-biggest viewership debut for a post-theatrical Indian film since 2024, after Fighter (5.9 million) and Animal (6.2 million).## Pushpa 2 was the second most-watched non-English title globally on Netflix during the week of January 27 - February 2. It was the number 1 movie in 7 countries, including India, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, and Bangladesh and the top 10 in 15 countries in its debut week.## Netflix acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of Pushpa 2 - The Rule for a massive price of 270 crores for all versions, that too without getting the benefit of a short theatrical window. While the opening weekend numbers look decent, given how Indian films have faired on streaming, it can be called underwhelming with the high cost involved. ## The initial reception for the movie seems to be ok, but it needs to be seen how it goes in the coming days. Mumbai, February 4 - The historic war film Kesari is one of the most iconic movies in Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's filmography. It narrates the story of 21 brave Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army who fought with 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen in 1897 in the Battle of Saragarhi. ## Kesari was a big box office success, leading to the high critical acclaim for Akshay and others. The film's title has its legacy, and now, the same is reportedly being used for the Airlift star's next movie on the life of C. Shankaran Nair. ## Produced by Dharma Productions, Cape Of Good Films and Leo Media Collective, the film is set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, and makers are giving it a franchise treatment. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, C. Shankaran Nair's biopic, which was earlier reportedly titled Shankara, will now be titled Kesari 2 to leverage the established recognition and thematic similarity with its namesake. ## "Although this film has no direct connection to Kesari, both films share a common thread of bravery, inspiration, and patriotism as their core elements. Like Kesari, this new film also narrates a significant chapter of history, exploring themes of nationalism and heroism", says the report.## In recent times, the sequels and the franchise movies have worked well at the box office and with Kesari having goodwill, the makers are positioning the biopic as its sequel to get the benefit of the brand and is being considered a strategic move. ## Directed by debutante Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari 2 has reportedly been postponed from its original festive release of March 14. The exact reason for the release postponement is not yet known, and the new release date hasn't been revealed yet, per Peepingmoon. ## With the likely postponement of Kesari 2, Akshay's next release will be the highly-awaited Jolly LLB 3 which is scheduled to hit the big screen on April 10. Mumbai, February 3 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's war action thriller Sky Force has entered the 100 crores net club, becoming the first Bollywood and second Indian movie of 2025 to achieve the feat. The movie is directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur. ## Sky Force, based on true events, unlocked the 100 crores club on the second Sunday. It took 10 days to reach the milestone which has not been a regular case for Akshay-starrer lately. This is the actor's third 100 crores net grosser post the Covid-19 pandemic, after Sooryavanshi and OMG 2. ## Produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Sky Force's opening weekend collection was largely boosted by the huge discounted prices and since then, it has done decently with regular prices thanks to positive word of mouth and top critics' reviews. ## It is the 126th film ever to cross 100 crores net collection in Hindi, and the 16th for Akshay Kumar which is the second highest after superstar Salman Khan's 17 movies. Sky Force is the debut movie of actor Veer Pahariya, and so is for director Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani. ## At the worldwide box office, Sky Force has grossed approximately 130 crores, including 119+ crores gross domestically. While his Sooryavanshi was a box-office success, Cirkus turned into a massive disaster and Singham Again, which was released on Diwali last year, didn't live up to the high expectations despite grossing over 350 crores worldwide. ## The maverick filmmaker has now reportedly decided to take a break from his blockbuster cop universe and is likely to direct a standalone action thriller film next with Bollywood star John Abraham other than comedy entertainer Golmaal 5 for which the script has reportedly been locked.## According to the report by Mid-Day, Shetty began developing the script for a standalone action thriller after the release of Singham Again and a few preliminary meetings with John have already taken place. The report states that if things go as planned, the movie might go on floors by April this year and a final call will be taken by March. ## If the project materializes, it would be Shetty and John's first collaboration. The duo has reportedly discussed the dates as Shetty plans to shoot for the movie in Mumbai in a straight schedule over 45 days this summer, after which, the director will shoot for the TV reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 15. ## John Abraham, meanwhile, will next be seen in a thriller film, The Diplomat which said is based on true events. He directed the original Hera Pheri (2000) and has been an absolute favourite of fans for the threequel. ## Hera Pheri 3 has been in demand for a long time and it was unofficially confirmed last year though there was no clarity on who would direct this hugely popular film. Well, this burning question finally got the answer when Priyadarshan, who is currently directing Akshay Kumar's Bhooth Bangla, shared his willingness to helm HP3. ## On January 30, Akshay wished the filmmaker on his birthday, and in response, Priyadarshan thanked him and in return gift, he said that he was willing to direct the next chapter of the cult classic and tagged the original trio of Akshay, Sunil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. ## Akshay and other Hera Pheri stars were quick to respond to the filmmaker and were delighted to reunite.
