James Cameron's 'Avatar 3' Gets An Official Title and Release Date

Mumbai, August 10 - Maverick filmmaker James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar 3 has unveiled its official title on Friday during the D23 expo. The first two movies in the franchise have already been etched in the history books with monstrous box office performances.## During the D23 event, James Cameron along with stars Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington revealed that the third Avatar blockbuster will be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, setting the stage for the things unfold in Pandora. ## "You'll see a lot more pandora that you never saw before. It's an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it's also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We're going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love", Cameron said (via Variety).## It is to be noted that James Cameron shot most of the portions of Avatar: Fire and Ash with Avatar: The Way of Water (Avatar 2), which depicts the war between humanity and the Na'vi after the rapacious Resources Development Administration (RDA) returns to the alien moon of Pandora.## Fire and Ash will follow the immediate events of Avatar 2, and at the D23 event, Cameron showcased some concept art from the movie, which reportedly was enough to excite the audience present there. The upcoming movie is believed to be more violent than the first two movies, and there will be new characters. ## The first Avatar movie was released in 2009 and remains the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.92 billion. Its sequel, The Way of Water, took 13 years to come to life but there was no drop in the excitement as it is the third highest-grosser ever with $2.23 billion. Mumbai, August 9 - The biggest of the month, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-fronted horror-comedy Stree 2 is set to hit the big screen within a week on August 15, on the occasion of Independence Day. It is the sequel to 2018's blockbuster, Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik.## Stree 2 has been certified with a 'U/A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an approved runtime of 2 hours and 29 minutes (149 minutes). Among the Bollywood films releasing on August 15, it is the second longest after Vedaa (150 minutes).## Produced by Maddock Films in association with Jio Studios, Stree 2 is the 5th movie in Maddock Supernatural Universe after Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. It is set after the events of Stree, as the town of Chanderi is being haunted again. This time, women are mysteriously abducted by a terrifying headless entity.## Shraddha Kapoor reprises her role as an unknown woman who now has the powers of Stree alongside the other returning cast of Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana in prominent roles. Mumbai, August 9 - It was a hugely disappointing week for Bollywood with two new releases, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Ulajh bombed at the box office. Both movies were not only unable to attract footfall but were awful from the opening day which led to a disastrous first week. ## The Ajay Devgn-fronted romantic thriller Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was expected to score a decent collection even though the buzz was not there for that to happen. The opening below 2 crores net mark sealed its fate as it scored disappointing around 10 crores net opening week. ## It is one of the lowest opening weeks for an Ajay Devgn-starrer in the last 2 decades and easily the lowest by far in the last decade. It has been no starter from the beginning and it will finish below the 15 crore mark as one of the major disastrous of the last few years.## Janhvi Kapoor-fronted thriller Ulajh which was released on the same day as AMKDT also met the same fate with a disappointing first week of around 7 crores net collection and the lifetime will likely be the same as AMKDT.## Ulajh, after the poor opening, did show a better trend than the Ajay Devgn-starrer but there wasn't much audience for it to capitalize on that as the overall collection remained low throughout the first week. ## The attention now shifts to the Independence Day weekend which will see the much-anticipated horror-comedy Stree 2 taking on Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein and John Abrahm's Vedaa. Hyderabad, August 8 - Actor Ram Pothineni and director Puri Jagannadh reunited for the sequel to their blockbuster movie iSmart Shankar. Scheduled to be released on August 15, Double iSmart also features Sanjay Dutt in his Telugu debut and Kavya Thapar in prominent roles.## Double iSmart is an important movie for both Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh and they seem to have gone all out for this mass entertainer just like the first part. It is revealed that the sequel has been censored with an A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to strong violence and dialogues. ## The sequel will be lengthier than the first part with approved theatrical runtime of 2 hours and 42 minutes (162 minutes). iSmart Shankar clocked 2 hours and 21 minutes which made it a neatly packed entertainer. Mumbai, August 7 - The sequel to Ajay Devgn-fronted crime thriller Raid has officially been postponed from November 15 of this year due to a tight release schedule. The movie is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta who confirmed the development.## Raid 2 was well on track until recently when Ajay Devgn-fronted highly-anticipated cop action drama Singham Again was pushed to Diwali 2024, two weeks before Raid 2's original release. It then became almost impossible to release two films of the actor with a tiny gap of just 2 weeks.## Director Rajkumar Gupta confirmed to Bollywood Hungama that the blockbuster will now be released early next year but the exact date is not yet revealed. The filmmaker said that producers will announce the official release date soon.## Raid 2 stars Ajay Devgn who reprises his role as an IRS officer, Amay Patnaik. In the first movie, Saurabh Shukla played the role of the antagonist but in the sequel, Riteish Deshmukh has replaced him to take on Ajay Devgn. Mumbai, August 7 - Earlier this year, Bollywood star Ajay Devgn headlined horror-thriller Shaitaan which is the remake of the Gujarati movie Vash. The movie emerged as a big box-office success which led to speculations about its sequel and now, there is a big update on the same.## According to the report by Bollywood Hungama, the script work for Shaitaan 2 has already begun and the makers will announce the movie once the script is locked. There is no update on when the film will go on floors and if the rest of the original cast will return.## Directed by Vikas Bahl, Shaitaan was released in March of this year and went on to gross over 200 crores at the worldwide box office. It is currently the second-highest-grossing Bollywood movie and third biggest in Hindi of 2024. ## While the official confirmation is awaited, Shaitaan marks the 8th film franchise to be headlined by Ajay Devgn, which is the most by any Indian actor. Chennai, August 7 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has emerged as the third most-watched Indian movie of 2024 on Netflix. The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial was originally released in theatres and emerged as a big box office blockbuster by grossing over 100 crores worldwide.## Maharaja debuted on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after the blockbuster theatrical release. It scored 3.20 million views in the opening weekend on Netflix, followed by a huge 6.10 million views in the second week (July 15-21), and another 3.60 million views during the week of July 22-28. ## In the fourth week (July 29 - August 4), the movie generated 2.60 million views, pushing its total viewership to 15.50 million views in 24 days. This makes it the third most-watched Indian title of 2024 on the streamer, behind only Laapataa Ladies (17.10 million views) and Crew (17.90 million views) and by far the most-watched South Indian title of the year.## Maharaja will most likely become Netflix's top-viewed Indian movie of the year by next week which will be a huge achievement for a regional Indian title after its blockbuster theatrical success. ## Produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios, Maharaja was released on June 14 to all-around praise from critics and audiences alike. Mumbai, August 6 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD has become the 4th highest-grossing movie ever at the Indian box office, beating megastar Shah Rukh Khan-led 2023's mega-blockbuster Jawan. ## The domestic box office collection of Kalki 2898 AD has crossed 760 crores gross (640 crores net) in all languages after 40 days, which takes it past the entire run of Jawan's 760 crores gross. At the time of writing this piece, Kalki has surpassed Jawan in terms of both net and gross collection. ## The Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD is leading the pack with approximately 350 crores gross (290 crores net), followed by the Telugu version with 335 crores gross while Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions have grossed around 75 crores so far.## As said, Prabhas' Baahubali 2 will remain the biggest domestic grosser with a mighty 1417 crores gross (1030 crores net), followed by KGF: Chapter 2, and RRR at the second and third with 1001 crores gross (860 crores net), and 916 crores gross (782 crores net), respectively. The film was announced a couple of years back but due to the other commitments of both the director and actor, the development of their maiden collaboration was delayed.## Over the past couple of months, there have been major talks regarding which film would Prashanth Neel be taking among Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and NTR-starrer. There were reports that Neel might go ahead with Salaar 2 as Dragon may need more time in the pre-production before taking in on floors.## According to the latest reliable reports, director Neel is proceeding with Jr. NTR and the movie will officially be launched on August 9 with Pooja Ceremony in Hyderabad. Though there is no clarity on Salaar 2 yet, the latest development indicates that Prabhas-starrer may not start soon.## Dragon will be produced by Mythri Movie Makers and it is easily one of the most anticipated Pan India movies in development. Mumbai, August 5 - Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-fronted superhero comedy Deadpool and Wolverine has surpassed $800 million at the worldwide box office, and with this, it has become the highest-grossing film in the Deadpool franchise, beating Deadpool 2. ## Directed by Shawn Levy, the 34th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) tentpole has grossed $824 million (6905 crores) through the second weekend, surpassing the entire theatrical runs of 2016's Deadpool ($783 million) and 2018s Deadpool 2 ($786 million) as the top grosser in the franchise.## Domestically (North America), Deadpool 3 has grossed $395.6 million (3315 crores) in just 10 days. It has become the highest-grossing R-rated film in North America after beating The Passion Of The Christ which scored $371 million in 2004.## At the overseas box office, the third Deadpool instalment has minted $428.5 million (3590 crores) over 52 markets. Chennai, August 4 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has become the highest-grossing film for the actor Dhanush after the excellent second weekend at the worldwide box office in which it also became the actor's third 100 crores grosser.## Directed by Dhanush, Raayan has beaten the entire run of Thiruchitrambalam (117 crores worldwide gross) on its second Sunday in just 10 days. The movie is looking to score around 10 crores worldwide on Sunday, which will take its total collection to around 123 crores gross. ## Interestingly, Thiruchitrambalam became actor Dhanush's first 100 crores grosser in 2022, followed by Vaathi which grossed approximately 116 crores in 2023. As a director, Raayan is Dhanush's first century at the worldwide box office.## Produced by Sun Pictures, the A-rated blockbuster is also the only third Tamil movie of 2024 to top 100 crores, and it is currently behind only Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (148+ crores) as the second biggest Tamil grosser of the year. ## The movie stars Dhanush in the titular role, leading an ensemble cast which includes S.
