Box Office: Crew Tops 150 Crore Gross Worldwide

Mumbai, May 10 - The heist comedy Crew starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon has topped 150 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office, becoming just the third Bollywood movie of the year after Fighter and Shaitaan to achieve the feat. ## Directed by Rajesh A Krishnan, the movie continues to score well in India due to the lack of competition. In its 6th week, Crew scored approximately 2.10 crores net (2.50 crores gross) pushing the total collection to 80.90 crores net (95.50 crores gross) in 42 days. ## Overseas, Crew has grossed an estimated 55 crores for worldwide 150+ crores. The movie will be looking to finish around 155 crores gross which makes it one of the biggest box office successes of the year so far for Bollywood. Kochi, May 9 - Fahadh Faasil's action comedy film Aavesham has become the 4th Malayalam movie to top 150 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office, after Manjummel Boys, 2018, and Aadujeevitham - The Goat Life. ## Directed by Jithu Madhavan, Aavesham has grossed an estimated 150.50 crores worldwide in 28 days. In India, the movie has minted approximately 96.10 crores, including 74.15 crores at the Kerala box office while the overseas collection is an estimated 54.50 crores.## Aavesham is the third Malayalam movie of 2024 to top 150 crores worldwide gross after Manjummel Boys (240.50 crores) and Aadujeevitham (157 crores). The movie is also on course to top 100 crores in India which will make it only the third Mollywood film to do so. ## The film has been made available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in just 28 days and this will slow down the box office progress of it. According to Torrent Freak, the Oscar-winning film topped the piracy chart since coming to Prime Video in Japan, ranking above other new movies like Dune: Part Two, Arcadian, and The Idea of You. ## The movie started streaming on Prime Video in Japan on May 1st, and within two days, it was one of the most pirated movies of the year. Mumbai, May 8 - It has been a struggling ride for Bollywood star Ajay Devgn's sports biopic Maidaan at the box office. Despite the advantage of the Eid holidays, the movie opened to a poor collection and never bounced back despite the open run. ## Directed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan has topped the 50 crore net mark on its 29th day which is no longer a milestone. Los Angeles, May 8 - The Apes are coming to rule the box office again as Disney's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looking at one of the best starts in the franchise. ## Directed by Wes Ball, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot the franchise and the tenth film overall is tracking to earn $50 million to $50 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, according to Variety.## If the movie opens in the projected lines, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could aim at the third or possibly second biggest opening in the Rebooted franchise. 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes notched a series-best $72 million opening, followed by 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes opened to $56.2 million and 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened to $54.8 million. ## Apart from the domestic, the upcoming movie is tracking to earn $80 million to $90 million at the international box office, for a $130 million to $140 million worldwide debut. The movie has been made on a budget of $160 million. ## The previous three films in the franchise have collectively grossed around $1680 million at the worldwide box office, including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes being the biggest grosser of them with $710 million. Mumbai, May 8 - Netflix may have to wait a bit longer to score a breakout global success from India as its ambitious period drama series Heeramandi - The Diamond Bazaar, created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, failed to make an impact in its opening weekend. ## Made on a budget of over 200 crores, Heeramandi was supposed to be the next big thing for Netflix but it could only manage to score 4.5 million worldwide views and 33 million viewing hours over the 5-day opening weekend. It is among the poorest viewership for Netflix India for the original shows. ## Though the series debuted at number 2 worldwide in the non-English category on Netflix, the critical and audience reception is below average for the show which might make it difficult for it to rebound in the coming weeks.## Despite Netflix's continued efforts to woo Indian audiences, there is not a single show or movie in the streamer's top 10 list, and now Heeramandi is also falling flat. Los Angeles, May 7 - Disney is set to reduce the number of Marvel movies to two and shows to three per year to avoid the overdose of entertainment. Disney CEO Bob Iger said (via Variety) that the studio is going to reduce MCU output per year to focus on quality. ## "We're slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we're working hard on what that path is", the Disney CEO said during the company's quarterly earnings call Tuesday.## Iger said that the studio is extremely excited about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be it movies or shows. After having a poor last year with a couple of big flops (a rarity for Marvel) in the form of Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels, the studio is gearing up for the exciting next few years. ## As of now, Marvel Studios has 4 films slated for 2025 release - "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts", "The Fantastic Four", and "Blade", and four more Marvel movies slated for 2026, including the fifth "Avengers” movie. ## In 2024, Marvel is releasing just "Deadpool and Wolverine", which is probably the most hyped MCU title in recent times. Chennai, May 6 - Aranmanai 4 scored a very good opening weekend at the domestic box office with superb occupancy across Tamil Nadu state which saw it crossing the lifetime domestic total of Lal Salaam in which superstar Rajinikanth played the extended role. ## Directed by Sundar C, the horror comedy minted approximately 22 crores gross in India, including 20 crores in Tamil and 2 crores in Telugu in the first three-day weekend. Lal Salaam had grossed approximately 21 crores in its entire run. In Tamil Nadu, the movie has minted approximately 18.25 crores gross.## The opening weekend of 22 crores of Aranmanai 4 is the second biggest for a Tamil movie domestically, behind only Dhanush's Captain Miller which grossed approximately 27.60 crores in the first 3 days.
