Box Office: Aavesham Becomes 5th Highest-Grossing Malayalam Movie Worldwide

Kochi, May 1 - The latest blockbuster Aavesham has become the fifth highest-grossing Malayalam film at the box office. The Fahadh Faasil-starrer has outgrossed recent mega-blockbuster Premalu to enter the top Malayalam movie globally. ## The Jithu Madhavan's directorial action drama film will be crossing 133+ crores worldwide gross at the end of its 21st day (3rd Wednesday) which will take it past Premalu which minted approximately 131.50 crores at the global box office. ## Aavesham is now behind only Manjummel Boys (236+ crores), 2018 (180 crores), Aadujeevitham - The Goat Life (156 crores), and Pulimurugan (139.50 crores) at number 5. In the next few days, the movie will cross Pulimurugan and is likely to top Aadujeevitham to finish as the third highest-grossing Mollywood film. ## The 4 out of the 5 highest-grossers have been released in the last 12 months with Pulimurugan being the only film released before that. 2024 has particularly been an excellent year for the Malayalam film industry so far with 4 films crossing the 100 crores mark. ## Stay tuned...

The last two films of the actress, OMG 2 and Article 370 emerged as big box office hits and at the same time, found audiences on their post-theatrical digital premiere. ## Article 370 is one of the major Bollywood successes and is one of the only six Bollywood movies of 2024 to cross the 100 crores gross mark at the worldwide box office. The movie was recently made available on Netflix on which the viewership of the film jumped in the second week. ## After scoring 5.6 million viewing hours from 2.1 million views in the first 3-day weekend, Article 370 jumped into the top 3 most viewed non-English Netflix films worldwide in its second week with 9.7 million viewing hours from 3.7 million views. The total viewership of the movie after 10 days reached 15.3 million viewing hours from 5.8 million views. ## Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's production venture Laapataa Ladies, which found some application upon its theatrical release in March this year with a worldwide gross collection of 24 crores (so far), debuted in the top 5 in Netflix's top 10 charts. ## The Kiran Rao's directorial film scored 4.5 million viewing hours from 2.2 million views in its first 3-day weekend. Chennai, April 29 - Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli has become the highest-grossing re-release film at the Indian box office in the 21st century. The sports action drama film, which was re-released on April 20, has grossed approximately 20 crores in India in 9 days. ## The 20 crores domestic gross collection of Ghilli makes it the biggest re-release grosser, beating James Cameron's Avatar 3D which minted 18 crores back in 2012. Iconic blockbuster Sholay 3D (2013) is the third biggest grosser with 13 crores. ## As reported earlier, Ghilli will also become the third highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024 at the domestic box office. Hyderabad, April 29 - Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya reunited with director Chandoo Mondeti for a rustic love story action thriller Thandel which is scheduled to release theatrically later this year. The movie has Sai Pallavi as the female lead, reuniting with Chaitanya after Love Story (2021). ## Thandel is touted to be the best film of Naga Chaitanya and hence, not only in trade, the movie is in hot demand in digital and satellite. Recently, it was announced that Netflix acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of the movie and now, according to the latest Telugu media reports, the streamer has paid a whopping 40 crores for the same. ## The 40 crores deal with Netflix is the highest-ever digital deal for a Naga Chaitanya film which shows the anticipation for the movie among the audiences. It is not yet clear how long the theatrical window will be but Netflix usually pay higher prices for a short window (4 weeks). ## Thandel is produced by GA2 Pictures in association with Geetha Arts. Mumbai, April 27 - Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures' Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has topped 100 crores net collection at the Indian box office, becoming the first Hollywood movie of 2024 and the first ever in the MonsterVerse to achieve the feat. ## The Adam Wingard's directorial blockbuster has grossed over 120 crores (100+ crores net) at the Indian box office in 29 days. In its 4th week, the movie grossed around 8 crores, dropping around 38% despite the arrival of the new Indian releases. ## India has been one of the biggest overseas markets for Godzilla x Kong. The movie was released on March 29 and scored 69+ crores gross collection in the first week. Kochi, April 27 - After becoming only the third Malayalam movie to top 150 crores at the worldwide box office, Prithviraj Sukumaran's survival thriller Aadujeevitham - The Goat Life has now become the third film to cross 75 crores gross mark in Kerala state. ## Directed by Blessy, the blockbuster film has grossed approximately 75.50 crores in 30 days, making it the third movie ever to go past the 75 crores mark in Kerala. Tovino Thomas' 2018: Everyone is A Hero is the highest-grossing film in Kerala with approximately 89.50 crores, followed by Pulimurugan with 78.50 crores gross. SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 is the 4th best with around 73 crores gross in the state.## Aadujeevitham is likely to finish with the third position in Kerala while in India, it is currently the 4th highest-grossing Malayalam film with around 95.75 crores gross after Manjummel Boys (164 crores), 2018 (111 crores), and Pulimurugan (100 crores). ## At the worldwide box office, Aadujeevitham is again the third highest-grossing Mollywood title behind only Manjummel Boys (237+ crores) and 2018 (180 crores).
