A Short Film Based On LCU Origin To Be Made Ahead of 'Kaithi 2'

Chennai, December 13 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's much-talked-about cinematic universe (LCU) is about to its origin story in the form of a short film. Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) has been the best thing that happened to the Kollywood industry in the last few years and the fans are keen to know what is in store for them next. ## As confirmed earlier, Karthi's "Kaithi 2" will be the next full-fledged film in the LCU but before that, a 10-minute short film about its origin will be released. Interestingly, "Kaithi" was the first film in the LCU, followed by Kamal Haasan's "Vikram", and Thalapathy Vijay's "Leo". ## Narain, the renowned actor in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, said in a press conference for the upcoming Malayalam film "Queen Elizabeth" that he is collaborating with Lokesh on a brief 10-minute short film that unveils the origin story of LCU and it will be released before "Kaithi 2" which begins late 2024. ## The last film in the LCU was "Leo", released in October this year. The next film, "Kaithi 2" will mainly focus on the back story of Karthi's character Dilli. Mumbai, December 13 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's rescue thriller Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue was the most-watched non-English film worldwide on Netflix during the week of December 4 - December 10, and also crossed 10 million viewing hours in the first 10 days. ## Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, "Mission Raniganj" scored 5.7 million viewing hours from 2.5 million views on Netflix during the said week. It was the 5th most-watched non-English title on the streamer in its opening weekend with 5.5 million viewing hours from 2.4 million views.## The total viewing hours of the movie are now 11.20 million from 4.9 million views. The film is trending in the top 10 in 14 countries, including number 1 in India, Oman, and Pakistan. Outside Asia, "Mission Raniganj" is trending at number 10 in Nigeria and number 6 in Mauritius. ## Meanwhile, Zoya Akhtar's "The Archies" which was directly released on Netflix on December 7, scored 5.2 million viewing hours from 2.2 million views in its opening weekend and was the third most-watched non-English film worldwide. Mumbai, December 13 - Ranbir Kapoor is on cloud nine after the mega-blockbuster success of his action drama Animal which has crossed 750 crores at the worldwide box office in just 12 days. It has become his highest-grossing film and put him in the elite league of superstars. ## The "Brahmastra" star has now reportedly confirmed his next film and the preparations for the same are said to have begun. It is known to everyone that Ranbir has been in talks with director Nitesh Tiwari to headline epic Ramayana but there was no official confirmation from the makers yet until yesterday when the actor himself reportedly confirmed the development. ## According to a claim made by an X/Twitter user, the Bollywood star has confirmed Ramayana as his next film. Ranbir will be playing the role of lord Ram while Telugu actress Sai Pallavi is roped in for the role of Sita. Kannada superstar Yash to play Raavan in this mega-budgeted epic.## The film is planned as a trilogy and the first film will go on floors by March next year with Ranbir and Sai Pallavi, according to Pinkvilla. Yash will reportedly join the shoot by July. He has an extended appearance in "Ramayana: Part 1", which is more of a story building of Ram and Sita.## The world of Ramayana has been designed by Oscar Winning VFX company, DNEG and the makers intend to introduce a new technology of filmmaking with Ramayana, and the entire test run of the shoot has been conducted multiple times. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie scored 13.12 crores net on its 11th day, pushing the total collection to 401.49 crores in Hindi.## In terms of days, "Animal" is the joint fastest movie ever to enter the 400 crores club with Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan which scored 430.44 crores net in the first 11 days. SRK's "Pathaan" and Sunny Deol-fronted "Gadar 2" are the second fastest to achieve the milestone in 12 days while Prabhas' "Baahubali 2" did this in 15 days. ## Here is the list of the films with 400 crores or more net collection movies in Hindi - ## 1. Mumbai, December 11 - Ranbir Kapoor-led action drama Animal scored a huge 87.56 crores net collection in Hindi in its second weekend, according to producer T-Series. In all versions, the mega-blockbuster minted approx. 93.70 crores net collection. ## Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal fell short of Sunny Deol-fronted "Gadar 2" which remained the biggest second-weekend grosser with approx. 90.50 crores net collection. "Animal", at once, looked like it would not only become the biggest second-weekend grosser but also become the first film to score 100 crores, but the collection on Saturday and Sunday came lower than expected to keep at number 2. ## Animal also scored the 4th biggest second Sunday and the biggest ever for an A-rated film with 33.53 crores net collection in Hindi. The first three spots are occupied by Gadar 2 (38.90 crores), Baahubali 2 (34.50 crores), and Jawan (34.26 crores) while the 5th biggest second Sunday belongs to Dangal (30.69 crores). ## As said, Animal is the first A-rated Indian blockbuster to gross 400, 500, 600, and 700 crores at the worldwide box office. After commencing the second weekend with the biggest second Friday ever in Hindi, the action drama has again the biggest second Saturday collection by a huge margin. ## The Sandeep Reddy Vanga's directorial was in full force on its second Saturday and scored an estimated 35 crores net in Hindi and can go up further depending on how strong the jump is in single screens. This takes the total collection of the film to 357+ crores net in Hindi in just 9 days. ## Animal scored an estimated 37-38 crores net in all versions, pushing the total collection in the vicinity of 400 crores net through the second Saturday. The second weekend is now looking to finish in the range of 105-110 crores net as Sunday is expected to be over 40 crores easily. ## Meanwhile, the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sam Bahadur is finding its audiences despite the Animal juggernaut and has turned out to be a success story at the box office. Mumbai, December 9 - Earlier this year, it was reported that Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor would be headlining Pooja Entertainment's mythological film based on the epic Mahabharata. Kannada filmmaker Sachin Ravi, known for directing Rakshit Shetty's action adventure, "Avane Srimannarayana" (2019), was said to be roped in to direct this magnum opus. ## Now, according to a report by Peepingmoon.com, Shahid Kapoor will be playing the role of great warrior Ashwatthama. He was the son of Guru Dronacharya and had received the boon of immortality from Lord Shiva himself. Shahid is said to have signed on to the film and will undergo intense physical training to embody the character of Ashwatthama. ## It is said that Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment have been on this ambitious project since early this year and putting their efforts into making this film a visual wonder and something that has never been attempted before in Indian cinema. ## The film is currently being written and is expected to go on floors by August 2024 and have a grand release by 2025.
