Box Office: Kantara Overtakes KGF 1 To Become Second Highest-Grossing Kannada Movie

Bengaluru, October 27 - Kannada production house, Hombale Films is in competition with itself at the box office. The top three Kannada movies of all time now belong to Hombale Films which first produced a movie in 2014. The three films are - KGF: Chapter 2, Kantara, and KGF: Chapter 1. ## "KGF: Chapter 1" was the first Kannada movie to cross 200 crores mark at the worldwide box office before Chapter 2 came and outdid its predecessor to not only become the biggest Kannada film of all time but also 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie with over 1200 crores worldwide. ## Now, Rishab Shetty's adventure action thriller "Kantara" which no one had expected to reach even 100 crores, has crossed "KGF: Chapter 1" to become the second highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time. It has grossed approx. 240 crores worldwide in 27 days, crossing KGF's approx. 237 crores worldwide. ## "Kantara" has had a far lower opening than "KGF" but thanks to unprecedented audience word of mouth, it has been trending extraordinarily at the box office and this makes it one of the biggest Indian blockbusters in terms of the return. Chennai, October 27 - Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally is directing a family action entertainer starring Thalapathy Vijay. The movie was believed to be a Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie where the Tamil title is Varisu, and the Telugu title is Vaarasudu. ## Now, director Vamshi has made things clear about the language and told Tamil magazine Vikatan that "Thalapathy 66" is a proper Tamil movie that will also be dubbed into Telugu as "Vaarasudu". It was supposed to be Thalapathy Vijay's debut film in direct Telugu language but that is not the case anymore.## Meanwhile, as per the latest rumour in Telugu media, Dil Raju who has produced this big-budget entertainer is not happy with Vamshi's comment about calling the movie a proper Tamil tentpole as reports say it will be tough for him to book maximum screens for a dubbed version. ## "Varisu/Vaarasudu" is in the last leg of its shoot. Mumbai, October 26 - Bollywood action star Tiger Shroff is reinventing himself and setting up an action-packed slate for the next couple of years. The actor had a shocker this year when his "Heropanti 2" bombed at the box office, however, Tiger's future line-up is looking bright and promising. ## The "Baaghi" actor has "Ganapath Part - 1" has been wrapped and will release early next year. Tiger also has Ali Abbas Zafar's "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan", slated to go on floors by January 2023, Rohit Dhawan's "Rambo", and Lakshya Raj Anand's next. ## Now, according to peepingmoon.com, Tiger has signed one more film with "Mission Mangal" director Jagan Shakti. The yet-untitled film is touted to be an emotional action drama and it will reportedly be produced by Pooja Entertainment which has also produced Tiger's "Ganapth". ## Tiger and Jagan Shakti's film will be shot in the UK, which has been the favorite shoot location for Bhagnanis. Tiger is more or less locked for the movie and only the paperwork is left which will be completed soon. ## Interestingly, Tiger was supposed to do Pooja Entertainment's other movie with director Lakshya Raj Anand but things didn't work properly. A Sequel To Actor Karthi's Blockbuster 'Sardar' Announced

Chennai, October 26 - Tamil star Karthi is having the best year of his career with back-to-back blockbusters at a time when most of the top actors are struggling at the box office. ## The talented actor's "Viruman" was a big hit, followed by mega-blockbuster "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1" and now, he has one more blockbuster in his hands in the form of "Sardar" which has grossed approx. 45 crores worldwide in just 5 days and emerged as a Diwali 2022 winner. ## Meanwhile, buoyed by the mega success of "Sardar", the makers have confirmed the sequel to this spy thriller with an official promo. During the press meet, the makers dropped a brief promo to announce that the filming for "Sardar 2" will commence soon. ## "Sardar 2" is likely to release in 2023. Interestingly, Karthi is lining up a couple more sequels in the same year as well. He will also have "Ponnyin Selvan 2" which will release in the summer of 2023, and keenly awaited "Khaithi 2" which will commence filming in the second half of 2023 and may release in 2024. ## The film is written and directed by P. S. Mithran and produced by S Lakshman Kumar, under the banner of Prince Pictures. This film is a depiction of the contrast between father and son's beliefs. The son, a police officer, believes that any deed of his should be broadcasted whereas the father, an intelligence officer, spent thirty-two years in prison for the greater good. ## The film stars Karthi in a dual role with Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Chunky Panday, Laila, Rithvik, and Munishkanth in prominent roles. It marks Chunky Pandey's debut in Tamil cinema and Laila's comeback to cinema after sixteen years. G. V. Bengaluru, October 25 - The Diwali festival of 2022 for Hombale Films gets better as its Kantara races past Rs. 200 crores at the global box office, making it the second film for the studio to do so in 2022 after KGF: Chapter 2.## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role in the film, "Kantara" has grossed approx. 210 crores worldwide in 25 days of its box office run in all languages. At the domestic box office, it has grossed approx. 196 crores and approx. 14 crores came from overseas markets.## The original Kannada version is leading the pack with approx. 145 crores gross in India, followed by the Hindi version with 26 crores gross, and the Telugu version with approx. 25 crores gross.## "Kantara" is only the 3rd Kannada movie of all time to storm past 200 crores worldwide, after two "KGF" films. The year 2022 has been the best ever with 4 films grossing over 100 crores worldwide and at the same time, 23 Indian films have achieved this milestone in 2022. ## Meanwhile, "Kantara" is also the most-watched film in Karnataka state with approx. 77 lakh turned to watch the movie in theaters. 'Kantara' Creates A Historic Record At The Karnataka Box Office

Bengaluru, October 24 - Rishab Shetty's blockbuster Kantara has created a huge record in Karnataka state as it has become the most-watched film ever in the state in theaters. This is indeed a huge record considering it wasn't expected to be this strong. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer film has grossed approx. 130 crores in Karnataka state with approx. 7.7 million footfalls. It beat the footfalls of both the "KGF" films which scored 7.5 million and 7.2 million footfalls respectively. RRR Japan Box Office Collection: Clocks A Good Opening Weekend

Tokyo, October 24 - SS Rajamouli's mega-blockbuster RRR has had a good debut at the Japan box office, grossing approx. ¥65 million (Rs. 3.61 crores) in the opening weekend.## The movie was carrying big anticipation among the Japanese audience and the presence of Rajamaouli along with Jr. NTR and Ram Charan further raised the excitement. It opened at Rs. 1.06 crore which is the biggest for an Indian movie in Japan. ## "RRR" did see some growth on the second day for approx. Rs. 1.33 crores, followed by approx. Rs. 1.22 crores on Sunday. It was released on around 210 locations in the country, which is probably the biggest-ever release for an Indian title. ## The opening weekend total of "RRR" is probably the highest ever in Japan as far as the Indian movie is concerned. Los Angeles, October 23 - Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DCEU's Black Adam brings a pleasant surprise at the box office, especially after the poor reception it got from critics. ## The film opened at number 1 at the domestic (North American) box office with $67 million in the opening weekend, the biggest-ever debut for Johnson's career as the lead hero. The movie overcome the revised industry projection of $60 million after critics' reviews. ## As per Variety, the opening of "Black Adam" being a superhero movie isn't earth-shattering but definitely a strong knowing it is a spin-off of "Shazam!" which opened at $53.5 million in 2019. "Black Adam" is also the first Hollywood movie since "Thor: Love And Thunder" in July 2022 to open over $50 million domestically. ## For a DC movie, "Black Adam" takes the second biggest opening in the post-pandemic-era after "The Batman's" $134 million in March 2022. The Jaume Collet-Serra comfortably beats the recent DC movies like "The Suicide Squad", "Birds of Prey", Wonder Woman 1984", "DC League of Super Pets" & "Lego Batman". ## At the overseas box office, "Black Adam" came at the high end of industry projections, grossing $75.9 million over 76 markets, for a $142.9 million global start. In India, it grossed $3.4 million (Rs. 28.10 Crore) in the 4-day opening weekend.
