The top three Kannada movies of all time now belong to Hombale Films which first produced a movie in 2014. The three films are - KGF: Chapter 2, Kantara, and KGF: Chapter 1. ## "KGF: Chapter 1" was the first Kannada movie to cross 200 crores mark at the worldwide box office before Chapter 2 came and outdid its predecessor to not only become the biggest Kannada film of all time but also 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie with over 1200 crores worldwide. ## Now, Rishab Shetty's adventure action thriller "Kantara" which no one had expected to reach even 100 crores, has crossed "KGF: Chapter 1" to become the second highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time. Bengaluru, October 25 - The Diwali festival of 2022 for Hombale Films gets better as its Kantara races past Rs. 200 crores at the global box office, making it the second film for the studio to do so in 2022 after KGF: Chapter 2.## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role in the film, "Kantara" has grossed approx. 210 crores worldwide in 25 days of its box office run in all languages. At the domestic box office, it has grossed approx. 196 crores and approx. 14 crores came from overseas markets.## The original Kannada version is leading the pack with approx. 145 crores gross in India, followed by the Hindi version with 26 crores gross, and the Telugu version with approx. 25 crores gross.## "Kantara" is only the 3rd Kannada movie of all time to storm past 200 crores worldwide, after two "KGF" films. At the time of its release, even Rs. 100 crores was looking like a far cry but such has been the response to the movie from audiences across the country, Rs. 200 crores now looks well within reach. ## The movie has grossed approx. 170 crores worldwide in 20 days and by the end of its week, it is expected to reach about 175 crores. The movie went overdrive to clock the mammoth as the early estimates suggest 23 crores gross on its 17th day for all languages. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has already become the non-KGF highest-grossing Kannada movie at the worldwide box office and with 3rd Sunday's collection has reached about 140 crores gross, including 100 approx. 100 crores in Karnataka state. ## The Hindi version of the movie was released on October 14 after the huge demand and it performed well in the opening weekend by clocking 9.50 crores gross, including an estimated 4.70 crores on Sunday. The Telugu version was released a day later to Hindi and has grossed approx. 9.70 crores in just two days.## Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has had another big day at the domestic box office, grossing an estimated 8.75-9 crores gross on its 3rd Sunday. Bengaluru, October 16 - On the day of Prithviraj Sukumaran's 40th birthday (October 16), Hombale Films unveiled the first look poster of his character and officially announced the actor onboard Salaar, fronted by Prabhas. ## Prithviraj Sukumaran was approached for "Salaar" in early 2021, but things didn't work out as he was busy with Jordan and Algeria shoots for Blessy's pandemic-delayed epic survival thriller "Aadu Jeevitham". However, luck was with him as the "Salaar" shoot was delayed due to the covid and the makers finally managed to get his dates before he officially came on board. ## The "Ayyappanum Koshiyum" actor, however, was always interested in this Prashanth Neel's directorial and there are multiple reasons for him to say yes to this high-octane action thriller film. During an interview with Variety, the actor revealed what made to sign the movie. ## "There are multiple reasons why 'Salaar' would be a no-brainer for anybody to say yes to – it's a Prashanth Neel film, a Hombale Films production and it is Prabhas' film. It is Prabhas' return to mainstream mass commercial cinema after a while. His films post 'Saaho' have been slightly away from the mass action genre", he said.## Prabhas plays the title role in the movie, and according to Prithviraj, most part of the film revolves around Prabhas and his own character, named Vardharaja Mannaar. With this, he has also confirmed his full-fledged role, contrary to the reports of an extended cameo. ## "I deem it a privilege that somebody like Prashanth Neel, post 'K.G.F: Chapter 2' thought it was worth waiting for me to be able to join the film. And I'm glad I made that decision to finally say yes to it, because having shot for a few days, I think it might just be one of those epic cinematic experiences. Bengaluru, October 16 - After becoming a rare 100 crore grosser at the worldwide box office, the latest Kannada sensation Kantara is now behind only Yash-fronted KGF film franchise to emerge as the Non-KGF Kannada industry hit. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has scored approx. 115 crores so far in 16 days, making it the third highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time, after "KGF: Chapter 2", and "KGF: Chapter 1". The adventure action thriller film has overtaken Rakshit Shetty's "777 Charlie" (approx. 103 crores) to become a new non-KGF industry hit.## Interestingly, four out of the top 5 highest-grossing Kannada films of all time have released in 2022 as only KGF-1 was released in 2018.
